Average US Retirement Age Is 61--And Rising - Yahoo! Finance
This is pretty sad. Plus even when most people retire past 61 (retirement in a wheelchair as MJ calls it) most still won't even have much money to enjoy themselves.
The comments are interesting too. Lot's of people seem hopeless. Not too many making comments outside the mainstream.
This comment is one of the few that seems to be in line with the 'fastlane mentality'
"Just who keeps pushing these stories about retiring later, there's at least one every week? Retire as soon as you can see a way to do so, you don't know when your time on this Earth will be up, enjoy yourself, say goodbye to idiot bosses."
Most comment seems to be along these lines:
"we are retiring older because the feds stole all the money from ss and didn't pay it back. if they did then the retirement benefits would be higher than they are now and we could afford to retire earlier and make room for the young ones."
"I figured it out and I can afford to retire two years after I die."
"At my present rate of saving, I estimate that I will be 137 before I can afford to retire."
" I think that for people of my age in my situation. The slow and steady patient approach is key. I am married with one kid and one on the way. Putting almost 1/10th of my pay away is a struggle, but u have to cut the fat and be regimented."
What do you all think about this? I am kind of surprised that so many in this country today feel so hopeless. Many people blaming politicians or corporations ,etc ..they are totally missing the point in my opinion. Yes politicians and corporations play a part, but what's the point complaining about it .....things will never be as they were. Also even if people did have a pension and could retire at 55 let's say. That's still decades of working before really being able to enjoy life.
