It's funny because many of the gurus preaching the "do what you love" BS have very weird rituals to "ignite their passion" before getting on the stage.

It's obvious to me that they're more than bored about doing the same stuff over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over and over...

And now they can't stop because they're being paid for it, trapped forever, and hypocritically convincing others to do the same thing.

INSANITY.

Yes, can't disagree. Hopefully his passion transfers from the product to the scaling of it.

In today's day and age, you can certainly make money with your passion. Do you love cars? Start a youtube channel and review cars and find a way to monetize it. You might not become a billionaire, but as long as you can live comfortably doing something you love then that's worth it, no?

Now I'm not saying that it is the wisest to start off with trying to create a business around your passion. Maybe it is wiser to start a fastlanebusiness first and use the rest of your free time to work on your real passion and build it into a business.

Passion is an emotion indeed and your passion might change, but that shouldn't be a problem and should not prevent you from doing what you enjoy NOW. Don't live in the future or live in fear.

What is almost certain though, is that you need passion in your life or else your life is not worth living. All happiness teachings agree on that. Where you find that passion and whether it should be in your business, is up to you. Ideally, it would be.

Just my 2 cents.

Trite snippets & quotes, and oversimplifications like "this guy follows his passion and he's rich!" are not doing anyone any favors. Cherry picking men who are rich from following their arbitrary passion (read: having fun), such as playing video games (PewDiePie), or goofing around (DudePerfect), and then saying "you can get rich from passion", is such a misrepresentation it borders on lying.

The payoff profile for that is one of the most extreme hockey sticks there are. Probably more hockey-stick than getting rich playing basketball. There is only one PewDiePie, and he gets most of the "watch a guy play video games" niche money. There is only one DudePerfect and they get most of the "watch guys goofing around" money. And yet all guys like goofing around and playing video games. Less than 1 in 10,000 of them could ever make a living from it, let alone get rich from it.

When people talk of their "passion", they just mean "things I like doing". When those people cherry pick cases where someone does what they like doing and gets rich from it, they're lying to themselves. When they point at Steve "do what you love" Jobs, a choose to ignore the fact he was originally passionate about spirituality and only got started in the computer industry to make a quick buck, they're lying to themselves. They're looking for a way out of the truth: "you'll have to do things you don't like so you can do things you do like".

Sure, you may like writing poetry. But let's see your passion for poetry sustain when spending your day writing poetry leads to poverty and misery.

On the other hand, if what you like doing has market demand (exception not rule), obviously you should pursue it.

So as usual, the truth lies somewhere in between. 'Passion' should be factored in, but so must the market and payoff profiles. If you enjoy learning about how the human body works and how to fix it when it breaks: lucky you -- there's always demand for doctors. If you enjoy drinking craft beer: so what -- no one's going to pay you for that.

Or put simply: your 'passion' is only relevant to your career/business to the extent that the market cares. Market first, passion second.

Do you really think you would sell cars every day if you didn't receive a dime in commissions? Passion only goes to the 10 yard line. After that, you've got 90 yards of grunt work to make it to the end.

Great analogy.

I believe people who prop up passion are only looking to avoid hard work and discomfort.

Passion comes from winning, breaking through challenges, and conquering fears.

Sure you can be passionate about your goals (and even your product) but ultimately passion doesn't turn a 15 year old Michael Jordan into a Hall of Famer. Passion for improvement and being the best does.
