The last couple days my website has received a ton of direct hits that look like this:

index.php/132r/63843.html

I have no pages that look anything like this.

Is this some kind of web crawler or something? Does anybody know how to get these off of my reports?

I'm NOT an expert on this. I know enough to be dangerous, but I have had my website hacked before, and dealt with cleaning it up.

You've probably already checked, but have you run a virus scan on your website, or looked for new folders in the file structure that shouldn't be there?

Is that real file on your website? If you have WordPress try installing Wordfence plugin. You'll be able to see what IP is targeting that page and block it.

If you have a virus, Wordfence scan might find it.

It's Rather search spam (aka SEO). Things like this are tested en masse to find if your site is vulnerable.

If you user server side analytics then ask on their support forum how to filter that out.

If you use javascript (like Google Analytics) then don't include tracking script on pages that don't exist.

None existing pages should return a 404 error.
On these pages, your GA shouldnt be active like it is on the other pages.

PS. You can enable 404 tracking with GA, but my point is that by having proper 404 handling, you`ll get these fake pages of of your reports.

Can you please clarify this?

How would it even be possible to use js on a page that doesn’t exist?

I also didn’t know GA had an “exclude traffic from bots” ticker. I’ve checked now, so hopefully that fixes the issue.

I’m still curious what you meant with your statement though?

to my knowledge, I do have proper 404 setup.

I get a 404 error when I go to a non-existent page.

Are you just saying I should remove the GA code from my 404 page?

Yea.
You`ll get bots trying to probe your site constantly and you can add a different way to monitor 404 pages.
Why not remove GA from 404 and have cleaner reports?

This does not appear to be working.

So, I did this, but it doesn’t appear to have accomplished anything.

Thsomething wrong (which I feel is unlikely... removing js from a 404 pg. isn’t all that complicated)

So, this didn’t work and I can’t figure out why.

When I copy and paste the URL, it takes me to my index page, but with no css.

But there is no such page in my files.

does anybody have anything else I can try? This is becoming really annoying.

It gotta be .htaccess file. Look it up, it should be in top folder of your website and see if there is any line with index.php in it.
The thing that does enable it is called mod_rewrite,you can look it up in google.
