Amazon affiliate commissions down from 8 to 3%

Anything considered a "hustle" and not necessarily a CENTS-based Fastlane

Amazon just cut their commission making people lose nearly 2/3 of their money.

I'm happy i read on CENTS and never went into affiliate space.

Also, the timing is impeccable.

Was just reading about this. Already made national news.

What's the logic behind it? I don't get it.

"Customer service is everything", perhaps the most famous quote from Jeff Bezos.
*Affiliate sellers can't be considered "customers". Here's your answer.
The focus is always on the consumers because they are who, ultimately, bring in the money.

Amazon has become so enormous that they don't feel they need the affiliates like they did 5, 10, and 15 years ago. People buy directly from Amazon all the time and even if they don't, they will usually at least check Amazon to compare pricing. Either way users are ending up on the website, and they don't need to be referred there anymore.

From their perspective it's probably a good business decision (i'm sure plenty of affiliates will stick with them anyways, even with the terrible commissions), but the timing of this could not be any worse. People need extra money now more than ever, and Amazon's stock just reached an all-time high.

The very affiliates who built up Amazon to the company it is today over the past 2 decades just got a slap in the face from Mr. Bezos, on the day his AMZN stock reaches an all-time high. Pretty ugly look but it is what it is.
