I also think there is an element of surrounding yourself with people that will shoot you straight.

I sold my "inner circle" on an idea I had. They all said what a great idea it was. I SOLD them on it. Then, when we launched... not one of them bought it. None of them.

The right advisors (note : not PARTNERS, but advisors) who will call a spade a spade can help you read the tea leaves appropriately.

If you don't know where to find them, start by hosting an informal, off the record, non-sanctioned meetup in your town with a few people you can meet here on the forum. Chances are, they're in a similar window of time to you. You might find your advisors there. At a minimum, you might find a group of people you can bounce stuff off of.

Wow - I clicked on this thread out of curiosity and am very glad I read through to the end.

There are tons of lessons to be learned here, but the one I'm taking especially to heart is that THIS is why more established people are sometimes hesitant to help or advise. To me, the goings-on in this thread are a good reminder to be nothing but grateful when someone takes the time to guide me, because at some point, they've all probably had a run-in with their own IATJ.

I second ick`s post that Jeff didn't know about the person leaving until I told him. I was also working with that person on my project up until just before He left the forum. We parted ways for unrelated reasons... Speaking of which if an admin wants to move my project threads out of the paid forum to public I can update those...

here's an entrepreneur on the forum @TedM that is grinding on his business. It didn't happen in a week. It didn't happen in a month. It didn't turn into gold in his first year. Should he QUIT? Only if he wants to settle back into building someone else's dream.

Thanks @Vigilante It still hasn't happened, and it's still not gold. But we're plodding forward.
