THe calculation for me was different, the calculation was: Did you make me more money than you cost me this week? Did you save enough of my time this week that I was able to do more productive tasks so that I could bring in enough business to offset your paycheck? If not, that employee was a liability and needd to find another place to hang out during the day.
Interesting. But who inevitably decides on the incentive structure, pay structure, job tasks and responsibilities? What if there was an error in aligning these things accurately with the goals of the company? Is that the employee's fault? If they come in, do as they are told and work hard, is it their fault if the tasks they were assigned don't align well with the profitability goals of the company?
Yes, this could indeed be a good gauge of poor employee performance, but management is also prone to mistakes. It is very important for management policies such as these to be reviewed frequently to ensure that employees are being assigned the right tasks that will inevitably save the company money, make the company money or save time.
