I need help brainstorming ideas about how I could invest.
I live in France and am currently growing my freelance activity and I should reach 18k euros net /months in a couple years. I will have hundreds of thousands of euros accumulating over the years.
But I am really unsure about how to spend/invest them.
My girlfriend really wants to move to Spain and to buy a big flat near the sea at San Sebastian, a city that she really loves. She also wants to have kids in a few years, although she hasn't 100% decided that yet. The problem is that we would need something like 450K euros to purchase it. My girlfriend is also making 7k euros/months net with her freelance activity.
On my part, I really hate personal debts and want to buy cash, if I ever buy a flat. I don't like having a long-term credit and would prefer being done with it ASAP. We will have enough cash in three years, even if our income doesn't grow.
But the thing is, after that purchase, we will both be back to close to zero euros in cash. This bothers me as an entrepreneur. I love having this "cash" protection, to adapt to the unknown. This decreases my anxiety a lot.
Also, less cash = less opportunities to grab good investment.
So I feel like buying this flat would be a big hindrance, and just renting it would be enough for the time being, to enjoy the lifestyle.
On my part, so far I've invested 40K in gold and am happy to make 50%+ benefits selling now after a couple years. It showed me that it's valuable to be able to grab these opportunities (and could have been much better if I was able to do it sooner).
I've been reluctant with cryptos because they are super- taxed in France (and Spain). So I feel like it makes it less compelling. (I would have purchased when it was discredited last year when bitcoin fell under 20K with FTX bankruptcy). Now it feels like it's too hot and the ship has sailed for the moment.
I don't like ETFs and the stock exchange so much yet. I prefer to invest in something that I fully understand and not because of the hype.
Something that attracts me more for the moment is to just put my cash in various bank accounts in different currencies and countries to enjoy higher interest rates (since they are pretty meager in France). I'm considering banks in Singapore, Georgia, the USA and Canada for instance.
My plan would be:
A> grow the company
B> put the money in precious metals (if it gets much lower) and banks in various currencies
C>Once I have enough cash while having a financial cushion> buy flat (in like 5 years)
D>Buy crypto and/or stocks for diversification
A final thing, but major one. I find that taxes in Spain are even worse than in France for both entrepreneurs and investing.
If it were not for me, I wouldn't live in Spain, because it will be a big hindrance for my business future and will put extra stress.
So I plan on at least staying French fiscal resident, because I'm already used to the system. But it's really not something that I find compelling.
