Hey All,

Honored to be a new member of the community here. Recently read Unscripted and took a lot of actionable insights away from the book and wanted to get involved with the forum.

Short bio: oldest of 6 kids and grew up in a military family. Started a lawn mowing business @ age 12 and haven't stopped working since. Waited tables during and after college, spent a couple years as an assistant on a bond trading desk, worked my way up in software sales, and recently started a sales brokerage for emerging consumer products brands.

The good news is that I'm self-employed. The bad news is that my business does not follow the 5 CENTS Commandments, a realization I made after reading MJ's book. I've got a business I'm starting on the side with a friend that does fulfill those 5 requirements, but I'm many months and many, many hours of execution away from running a successful UNSCRIPTED business.

With all that said, I'm super excited about the journey and inspired my the stories I'm reading on here. Looking forward to growing with the rest of the community here and adding value in what ways I can.

Thanks,

Brandon

Doesn't matter, ya gotta start somewhere! Sounds like you have the raw materials, just need a little better strategy.

Welcome to the board.

Hi Brandon! You've had a freelance mindset for a long time. Looks like NECTS is a minor course correction for you, rather than the major shift away from what I learned that "big organization job = many years of contentment." Dad worked about 35 years for a university that was a government contractor, starting there before I was born and retiring from there shortly after I finished college. I tried, unsuccessfully, to recreate that career path, but that was after the "social contract" was already broken! You don't have to unlearn all that for you and your buddy to succeed with your new business. Looking forward to how it goes for you.
