If you're still looking for speakers, I'd be happy to share my experiences with multifamily real estate and "house hacking" - I own 4 apartments right now, am closing on my next property in a week, and have another property under contract for mid-November.

I think real estate can be a great vehicle to building wealth as it can give you control over where you live, while allowing you to cashflow, pay down principal on healthy debt, and force appreciation with renovations. I'm fairly involved in a strong real estate network in SW Ontario, and have worked with several flippers and long term investors. The strategies I have picked up from my own experiences, as well as many others, are definitely transferable geographically.

Let me know if this is potentially of interest and I could definitely put together a more thorough outline for a presentation!

I just bought your book at the recommendation of @G_Alexander after reading his gold rent free thread. I didn't realize that you were on this forum - what a cool coincidence. I'm interested in that now, so I'd be interested in it at the summit. As the US gets more populated there will be more competition for land, so beyond cash flow it will be valuable to start building your little fiefdoms now.

Hookers and drugs, duh

-Divorce lawyer $3k - I didn't ask for anything cause I just wanted to get over with it. It was dumb but the toxicity was even worse.
- I had to move twice after my divorce, both times even with friends' help between mattress and IKEA essentials (yeah, only essentials) I got set back around 1k each time
- Tuition to finish my associates, books
- Therapy sessions
- Computer, after my Macbook pro died overnight after 7 years. RIP MB
-My cat needed a tooth extraction, that was around $700
-Then I needed all my wisdom teeth surgically removed, that was $2500 after insurance
-Each visit to Argentina 2017/2018 set me back like $2.5k -which is why I've decided to not visit anymore until I buy the house-

On the mostly dumb, retail therapy side:
-Apple Watch couple years ago
-A big desk to make art/write/work on (to be fair that was $40 and $50 each leg at IKEA)
-Sold my iPad to my bf to upgrade it to the one that supported Apple Pencil, to draw.
-Fishes are WAYYY more expensive to keep alive than I thought. Not getting a fish again for a while. RIP Arthur Curry (2017-2019)
-Art Supplies for the soul.
-Oil painting classes to do something I liked.
-Camera to film painting progress to upload to YouTube.

On the "yeahhh you probably shouldn't have" side:

-Go over my play money and eat out too much. I say yes to dates I can't afford. Keep telling my bf to remind me then I break my own rules.
-I bought my best friend an indoor bike. She has money problems and couldn't afford to go to the gym and was getting depressed and I wanted to help her.
-I bought my boyfriend a gaming chair for his birthday. Let's just say I can't be stingy with gifts for friends and family.

That's about it that I can recall, because the rest are small things that add up. Then what goes in the savings ends up coming out of the savings.

I still got the cheapest phone plan, no gym, I spend $100/mo on groceries, I don't even have internet... I don't lack the capacity to save with my current income but I've forgotten how to say no to myself after some bad times. I know exactly where I'm going wrong. Save the "you don't want it bad enough", I'm working on this. :bored:

I think you know what I was getting at... :)

The $1000 on the summit has way more future potential than most of the other things you've spent money on. The risk vs. reward or money spent vs. return on the summit is a no brainer and you are saying "I can't, I need to save money", but for some reason on your bf's gaming chair (and other stuff), you reasoned to yourself that it was worth it.

All I'm saying is that some things are worth the expense... even if you have to put them on a CC. And I generally wouldn't advise anyone to purchase things that they can't afford at the moment.

I would love to join the 2020 summit, unfortunely i dont have much experience in business regard to offer for a speach but i could give a speach about social anxiety for those who are struggling with doing cold calls, presentations or talking to members of the opposite sex.

On the whole I'd say the average person's social skills are on the decline and that loneliness is a crisis that is being overlooked (there is basically no point to being alive if you don't have other people to share it with). While I don't need this particular skill, plenty of people lack a framework to even start talking to the opposite sex. Like a year ago I was always very antsy about hitting on women in public, but after months of doing it I don't even think about it. I just go up to them, say that they're cute, and ask if I should keep talking. That simple routine has worked wonders on my confidence & ability to strike up conversations with strangers. My success rate is low (cold calls anyone?) but my fear is basically gone.

Can we stop derailing this thread I appreciate it I promise I will think about it.
No. We need to get you out of your comfort zone.

Ask 'how can I?' ..... then find a way to earn the money to pay for your trip. Instead of doing less to 'save' the money, do MORE to 'earn' the money. Get into a producer mindset.

Quit the excuses and make some shit happen.

I am genuinely happy for @MJ DeMarco and the forum.

Last year when MJ created the thread for 2019 Summit, the engagement was very low.

This year, the enthusiasm shown on this thread is just amazing.

Also, what happened to @jon.a ? Miss his one liners!

And, unless I missed something, where is @B. Cole ? Product creation, struggles, invention to market?

There's probably quite a few followers of this thread who are on the fence too... You might be inspiring them to go

To update this thread and the process, I will be accepting speaker submissions this week and sending invitations next week, complete with a link to the ticket and the price. Because I'm yet to sign the contract with TSR (right now I'm on a verbal agreement) the speaker discount is yet to be determined.

Once the speaker ticket is secured and purchased, the slot is confirmed and I will announce it on the forum in a main speaker thread. This will give everyone who plans on going a chance to see WHO is speaking and the topic.

If you'd like to speak and/or get a guarnateed ticket at a discount, please submit a topic here or via the contact us form here at the forum.

@BellaPippin - People are dropping things to challenge your current mindset. Please think about them and really reflect.

For some reference on the cost for the summit -

I have spent $1,000 and $1,500 on educational courses. The first one was from Mr Landlord. Tickets to his conference with other speakers in Cleveland came with the course. At the conference I heard a speaker talk about self storage and HAD to buy his course. I also went to this conference in Indianapolis and TOOK ACTION and put the knowledge to use.

$2,500 and my time has turned into me bringing in about $2,500 per month from one storage facility. Additionally I just sold a piece of land that I got approved to build another self storage facility and put $130,000 NET into my bank account.

Had I not spent that initial $1,000 I would not be where I am today!

CREATE a path to get the funds to go. It could change your life trajectory.

I talked to my wife tonight and she's all good with me going. We have a second child coming any day now so we're looking at probably 5 months and should have a good routine going. The more I think about it, even though I don't have a business, I can't pass up this opportunity.

So, count me in under the idea that everything falls into place and I'm able to get a ticket!

As many of you know, last year's official Fastlane Summit was canceled. My reasoning was outlined here in this thread. Fast forward one year and I'm happy to report that forum usage (users) are up 57% since then, and regular user sessions up 27%.

At these metrics I believe the forum can support a Summit this year provided the following...

A) We get an ample selection of volunteer speakers who want to speak on a great topic

AND

B) We get a reasonable level of interest here at the forum.

Here are the details of the proposed event:
  • Dates: February 7th and 8th (Fri/Sat) 8am -5:30pm (The next weekend is Valentines Day)
  • Held at Talking Stick Resort in Scottsdale Arizona (Room rates for this event will be $239/night.)
  • Hope to feature 12 speakers at 30 to 45m per speaker, perhaps some panel discussions or breakouts per topic.
  • If you are selected to speak, you are guaranteed a ticket and guaranteed to get it at a discount (discount yet to be determined but minimally it will be 25% off, perhaps 50% or more - depends on my final contract costs with the casino)
  • Max attendees: Shooting for 80 - 120 (might be able to do plenty more if demand warrants)
  • Ticket price: Should range in between $349 and $549 dependent on hotel costs (which I'm ironing out now).
  • Included: Food items items are yet to be determined, but minimally would include lunch, all day coffee, and maybe a dinner or two.
  • In the past tickets were offered to INSIDERS first, then regular forum users. (In the past this event sells out in hours). INSIDERS might get a discount, or first dibs on tickets, still undetermined.

So with this said, if you are interested in SPEAKING, please post here and included a synopsis of your talk and the value it might provide to a group of entrepreneurs! Expect to speak 30-45 minutes!

If you are interested in ATTENDING given the date, time, and cost details, let me know as well here in this thread so I can gauge interest. Typically if 100 people have an interest, 50 will attend. If you attended a past Summit, note that as well as that means you will likely mean a YES when you say YES! I will likely create a pre-order form with a required deposit to turn passive interest into real interest.
Where can we sign up?

If there is still a need for speakers, I'd throw my hat in too.
Really was considering just kicking back and listening to others at this one as I've had an opportunity to share twice, but you know, if MJ decides to allow me another round I would be glad to share.

I'd speak on:

"Creating a VISION, for your team, your business and your customers"

Painting that vision of who and what we are, albeit in ecommerce, B&M, product creation, or sales, can often times define whether we win or lose in creating and developing a growing and successful business.

"Without a VISION, the people perish"

I vote @amp0193 to speak and he gets something together lol. On something, anything. I feel like even if he goes up there to freestyle ramble, he'd drop some knowledge bombs.

Submitting my 2020 speaking proposal: "45 Minutes of Freestyle Rambling" ;)

Thanks for the kind words @James Fend

I’d throw out that itd be awesome to add in some panels with q&a to break up the speeches to cover topics like real estate investing, productivity or e-commerce I think those get a ton of traction out of them and it’s more tactical for people to apply directly to their business/goals.

For similar events I've been to, we've done "breakout sessions", where people choose which of the 3 sessions they want to attend at that time.

It's a great way to mix up just listening to speaker after speaker and you get to make the event more relevant to you.

The panel idea would be good to get people involved who maybe don't want to present a full 45 min, but would be happy to sit and answer questions.

Even if it was just choosing between 2-3 different speakers at a couple of points, it'd allow us tailor the event to what we need to hear the most.

Panel works if the questions are concise, directed at one individual vs “here’s a question for the group” and the answers are concise. @MJ i’ll mod/host any panel you want.

2nd this... panels (especially bigger ones) must have a mod.

I want to go, but I feel like I don’t deserve to go based on my forum MIA-ness and lack of actual business related productivity

Somebody tell me I’m wrong!

You're wrong, get your a$$ there!

And do something in the next 5 months worth telling us about.

Here's my proposal (for real):

"Finding Personal Fulfillment in Life and Business"

The presentation will be in a narrative form and cover my journey over 8 years from:
  • Disillusioned music teacher with no clear purpose anymore
  • My many failed business attempts (chasing money)
  • Building an ecommerce business to an exit in 2.5 years... and finding that success leaving me feeling hollow and empty inside.
  • Starting and growing my current business, which aligns my purpose with providing value to the world... and how, despite the much longer and rockier road, it's fulfilling at a deep level.
  • Beyond... My vision for the future, and how I hope to use this business to impact society over the next decade and beyond.

This would be a good presentation for those:
  • who are just getting started in business, and not yet thinking "long term" or "big picture".
  • who have had success and are wondering if there's something more than 4 hour work weeks and "passive income".
  • who want to leave a mark on the world

Great to read that this is happening in 2020 folks.

I will regrettably have to give this one a miss. I’m currently on honeymoon in CA from the UK and this 4 week vacation alongside the wedding makes this simply not possible for me to able to afford or get the time off work! Sucks to be chained down, but it’s the only thing paying the bills right now.

Also, I haven’t had the balls to actually get anything moving forward yet from a business perspective. Haven’t even taken a shot!
This is the kick up the a$$ to make sure I am ready when the 2021 summit comes around!
