I want to have $100k in the bank after my real estate wheeling and dealing.

I like even numbers, once I have $100k I'll start working on $1m. I'd really like my company to have $1m in assets before I'm 30. Than I can technicaly say I'm a millionaire.

Great enthusiasm everyone, but I am going to stop you all right there. Your goals are not definite and exact with timetables. I'm going to eat better is not a goal. I'm going to lose weight is not a goal. I will lose 15 pounds by March 15th is a goal. I strongly recommend you all go back and fix your goals. Do you want to be a true action taker? Then make your goals count this year. Don't make them empty and hollow.

-I will mail out 50 probate leads per month starting Jan 1st.
-I will sell 6 houses this year netting 15k average per house.
-I will sell my first probate house by Feb 28th.
-I will rent out my current home and a buy a 3 bedroom 2 back 1500+ sq foot ranch home with a 2 car garage in a neighborhood 2 miles to the south of me by June of this year.
-I will officially be off the market June 5th this year.

Good point Bilge. I really meant for this to be a little more light-hearted, maybe just getting the wheels turning to make these a solid goal. You are right on though, goals have to be more specific and have a deadline to have them function for you. I'll take the input any way it comes. Thanks Bilge.

My goal(s) is pretty simple:
Get smarter! And not just smarter - but a LOT smarter.

I am 19 years old and still havent made anything at all. I gotta stop comparing myself with these young computer genius's who make several millions before they reach 18.
- I simply have to tell myself to sit back, read, learn and get smarter.

My goal(s) is pretty simple:
Get smarter! And not just smarter - but a LOT smarter.

But what is the goal within that goal?

Try making them specific otherwise the vagueness doesn't impel action.

Transform "Get smarter" into "I will read and finish 1 book every week for one year" and/or "I will take one online class per month"

Now you can take a specific action and monitor the goal. "Get smarter" can't really be monitored.

Losing weight is a goal. But the question should be what's your plan to reach your goal?

My goal is to lose weight (15 lbs) therefore my plan is:

a) In 2010 I am going to make it a habit not to eat anything after 7pm
b) I will eat breakfast every morning
c) I will eat 4 smaller meals per day instead of 3 big ones.
- Breakfast at 7am
- Brunch at 10:30am
- Lunch at 1:15pm
- Dinner at 5:30pm
d) I will stop drinking soda daily and will only have 1 per week.
e) I will walk for 1 hour each evening 6 nights per week at 3.5 - 4.0 mph

If I follow my plan I will reach my goal in 90 days. :smx9:

++ Now thats the way to write goals. Well done. Now see yourself 15 lbs lighter on March 31st. Picture, picture yourself healthier keep that in mind everyday until you reach your goal.

Keep em coming folks. Have a desire, set your precise goals and take massive action towards those goals.

For me in 2010, I need to:
1) Finish a book I am writing (By the end of January).
2) Use my juicer and blender every day, all year,(so I can lose 20lbs.)
3) Maintain my GPA throughout the year ( I have a 4.0).

speed to Bilge for helping identify that goals need to be measured using true metrics.

perfect example already mentioned: "Lose weight" does not use metrics but "Lose 15 lbs by April 15th" does and is a very measurable goal. You can break down your attainable goal by the month, week or day and this alone makes goal setting a much more realistic accomplishment.

but more importantly to this the spirit of this forum, ranking the goals by dollars is THE most important metric versus how many RE units you want to own.

One of my goals this year is to get an extra 150k income from purchasing and selling real estate.

Whether it takes 1 unit or 20 units to accomplish this goal isn't necessarily the most important point because my ultimate achievable, measurable and attainable goal is to get an additional 150k. I enjoy doing real estate deals so I would be more apt to do more than 1 deal.

Applying metrics and time to my plan, this action calls for 6 units of 25k profit each.

Broken down in a year's time, this amounts to 6 buys within the first quarter of the year and then 6 sales before years' end.

Part of the "goal" and "plan" also accounts for a back up situation if all should not pan out. If the properties do not sell before April (when fed stimulus tax credit expires) then renting them out becomes the main option and will just be added to my existing portfolio of 20 units.

Anyway, I have a lot more goals besides this one and after I gather all of my thoughts I'll probably post them. I achieved quite a few in 2009 and I hope to achieve just as many in 2010.

At the end of the day, my most important goal is to really enjoy whatever quality time I can get with my family.
