I am developing a physical product.
I am sharing a stream of my thoughts, I want to just rant about some things I've realized. And share how intense things are right now.
It is the 8th month of me just developing my product. No sales yet. I believe in it enough to keep working for 8 months.
I have put 100s of hours into this. 100s of €. I am using the entire summer to learn to draw, write, make videos, make and test prototypes...
I no longer believe any YouTube video, anyone who tells me how easy it should be, how fast I should get to validation. You have no idea and you are most likely lying.
No, it cannot be validated sooner than in 8 months, yes, it is supposed to take 8 months to develop. If you are telling me to rush to validation, you are either lying or dropshipping. Don't know which is worse.
Same for any friends who brag, "I am going to start a business." No, you aren't.
Maybe you can make a scam in less than 8 months, or some useless SAAS product, but definitely not anything valuable.
I absolutely hate the delusions floating around and the expectations everywhere. Most "advice" out there is not made to help you.
The reality of a business is that every idea is locked behind 100s of hours of work. Could even be over 1000 hours. Even validating an idea is locked behind 10s for simple low value things or behind 100s for more inventive things like mine. Gosh! I envy the entrepreneurs who can pull it off with simple shirts and whatnot marketing arbitrage. And hate the scammer millionaires.
If you are making a business, expect to lose sleep because of working, being excited, being stressed, or both.
Expect missing your friends all the time. Expect feeling heartbreak all the time, as you had to ghost your crush to continue grinding, and you don't have the spare cash to take her out now.
Expect feeling FOMO when seeing that everyone is vacationing, hanging out, having fun, dating, while you are alone in your room learning to illustrate, video edit, gluing, 3D printing, or other random, currently needed shit. The workout and swim, maybe a walk to think, your only fun for the day.
Expect your family to be annoyed with you and call your business "The mess in your room."
ESPECIALLY: Expect it to feel like a horrible mistake most of the time for 8 months straight, while being batshit anxious, exhausted but needing to work anyways. And usually you need to work exactly on the thing you least feel like...
On a positive note, I am pretty triumphant and happy sometimes. The thing I made is beautiful, definitely works and has value. I believe in it very strongly. Logically, it feels far better than other scams and useless products that exist, but the uncertainty of not being able to validate it yet is driving me COMPLETELY BATSHIT.
I also learned how to actually work hard, for the first time in my life. I never really could work hard. I failed at freelancing twice before, for this reason. Now I know if I just worked and controlled my time like I do now, I would for sure succeed twice. If you failed to learn to work hard in primary school with your homework like me, you are NOT screwed. Just realize you can learn it now. Is it possible to make myself crave the work and not dread it, so I can stop being stressed all day? Will I eventually get used to it, until I like it? OF COURSE! Normal people even enjoy work. It's only that my brain is deepfryed by watching and gaming.
I believe freelancing and skills do not have a chance element like business. It's 100%, but the pay is smaller. If you told me that years ago, I might not have given up on it, but I also might not be working on this business right now. I would probably be enjoying the summer.
Hyperreality does not impede your success, IT COMPLETELY PREVENTS IT. Get rid of all forms of it. Get rid of games, videos, YouTube, TV, radio. Not even a second a day. Successful hard-working, happy people don't unwind at the TV. They work until sleep. They don't need "entertainment"; they have real entertainment without quotation marks. Diving, hiking, status, triumph, flying their own airplane, love, dating, travel, friends, adventures, travel and fulfilling their own dreams. I know a few, they literally don't have a concept of "consuming entertainment", only work, responsibility, chasing dreams and adventures.
And they keep pulling it off without businesses, by the way...
I somewhat believe all "entertainment" and art included is always detrimental.
Anyways, I am not going to give up on my business. It's impossible to stop now.
And now I should be only several 10s of hours of my work till I ship it. I guess maybe 40 to 80. Fingers crossed, August is the month I validate...
