Question: How to get good friends?

Answer: Be a good friend.

It can help, but I wish it was that simple. In my experience, it also improves the probability of getting taken advantage of...

I'm sure we all have had "friends" that when you see them text or call, you're like, "Oh boy, what do they want/need now?"

They never ask how you're doing.
What's new in your life?
How's it going?

It's always, "Hey, can I borrow your X?
Or, "Hey, how do you publish a book? I know I haven't talked to you in 8 years, but I was curious."

Eurgh.

No doubt someone went and bought a $57 SEO course that recommends spamming every website you can scrape an email for.

I agree but I have found the only way for me to make progress is to be the first one to take action. Kind of like business.

Can’t play chicken waiting for the other person to do something. I used to be sad cuz friends weren’t inviting me to do things (this was in high school and early college).

Then I got serious and decided I would do the inviting first and make the plans myself.

Suddenly, reciprocity began! I started getting invited to stuff by the same people I invited.

I think it’s a good lesson.

It can be win-win value.

My social life drastically improved when I started inviting other people to hang out.

People asking for stuff when they haven't seen you in years is always annoying though. In my circles it was always someone asking to listen to their band and share their music.

For example, I just learned today that an idea I had years ago for an airport valet service is now reality. Not only is it reality, but it is growing and grabbing funding.

The service is EXACTLY as I envisioned it would be.

Darn it!

The old, "Damn, I had that idea!!" strikes again!

That said, I might invest as they are taking accredited investor money.

What is it called when you write an entire novel explaining something to someone, and instead of debating the current topic, they nitpick a single sentence unrelated to the current topic and ignore all of the backed-up, factual information you wrote in the novel that utterly destroyed their argument?

Lol. It's got to have some kind of logical fallacy name or something.
