That story is very common. It happened in my extended family. One survived. One almost died and one close family friend died, at age 82. Then two of my friend's friends died. One in the UK, one in the US. Covid is real. Please get vaxinated!

Although sad, and I have sympathy for you.

Dont tell me what to do.

Okay so in spirit of the Vancouver picture, I'll throw one up that I took here this morning while out on a bike ride.

Sure Canada sucks, but it does have it's positives

Lol. Government and citizens have shown their true colors during this special world event. So maybe the reason why it is so heavily discussed is because a prime reason for wanting to leave our respective countries is due to this. I guess that's too hard to figure out though, my apologies.

I'm just trying to save you from the misery of covid. It's very likely everyone that is unvaxinated will get it. On the other hand maybe the vaccine will do harm to everyone and you are right.

People are getting covid even when vaxinated as well as long haul covid even after vaccination.

People need to worry about their own choices and not try to "save" others.

People need to decide for themselves on the risk profile for themselves in their own situation.

I get you have good intentions, but it doesn't help.

We have been over this. As much as some people would rather discuss humidity levels and scenery, Covid was a massive test for not only the culture of a country’s citizens, but also an examination of the government’s respect for personal freedoms. The government, being directed by the demands of people, is the primary reason we all are sick of our countries.

Trust me, the Houston swamp humidity and flat uninspiring scenery is the least of my worries.

The level of fake news here is astounding.

It was actually a peaceful protest in reality and it's only once police weren't outnumbered when it ended they started to pick people off.

The reality is that the police where the violent ones.

You just gotta love how they label everyone at these protests antivaxers.

Australia is almost as bad as the CCP at this point

Definitely don't come to Australia.

Pathetic really.

Not getting the covid vaccine does not equal being anti Vax. I hate that they have made even asking questions about this as you being some crazy right wing conspiracy nut

It's called framing. It's a linguistic strategy we use all the time. Successful politicians are very good at it. If you want to learn more about it, read George Lakoff's works, especially his "Don't think of an elephant".

Back on topic.

Question for the people considering the Balkan countries: do you not fear the EU will force them into compliance, once the big EU states have finished implementing their regulations?

I saw a news article discrediting the Melbourne lady who’s viral lockdown video you posted in the thread earlier.

They called her a con artist due to her starting a business and going bankrupt owing $400k.

Then used that to make her seem like a scammer as a go fund me was set up for her.

the thing is if a business fails and you declare bankruptcy that sucks, it doesn’t make you a scammer though. And she also didn’t start or ask for the go fund me and gave the money away.

however, not only does this try and discredit her message by digging up her past, it also serves as a message to anyone thinking of posting similar videos that they will dig into your past and broadcast anything slightly negative they find on national news.

it’s very reminiscent of the pregnant lady who was arrested in her home at the start of lockdowns for a tweet or something, I had forgotten about it entirely and forget the details but yeah, the message is clear.

they are also looking for all the people who were at the protests.

this is a scary level of control where you will be arrested just for saying or doing something that doesn’t fit the narrative

for anyone who hasn’t read it, the book gulag archipelago by Alexander Solzhenitsyn is enlightening. It is the real life story of Solzhenitsyn, and the there are parallels from the rise of the authoritarian soviet state and the horrors the committed and what is going on now in many places.

Our ignorance of history will dictate that we must repeat the same lessons over and over again. It seems in many places like Australia they are at the beginning cycle from the book where people are rounded up all I’m the name of safety and betterment of society.

BTW, if you buy the book, I’d recommend the abridged version with the forward by Jordan Peterson, the unabridged version is around 2,000 of pages.

We all have freedom of speech in every country of the world. It’s the freedom after the speech that separates us.

Good suggestion on the book @GIlman

It will be hard, but the writing is on the wall!! Don't stay and be subjected to those horrors. You know the rest of the world won't come Australian citizens aid when it all goes 100% crazy. The rest of the world will use it as an excuse as to why they can do it as well.

Welcome to the First World

I have at least a dozen clients and friends who left Australia in the past year for exactly these reasons. I know it wasn't easy to get out, but not one of them has expressed one ounce of regret. Personally, I'd be on the next flight to NZ and then onward.

I've been back in Latvia for the summer and have a few interesting observations.

1. Latvia now has a vaccine passport that is a govt sponsored app. The app requires every single permission in your phone settings. Every. Single. One. Tell me, why would they need to have access to all my phone data just to show someone a qr code reflecting a vaccine confirmation?

2. Officially, if you want to eat indoors at a restaurant, you must show the covid passport app on your phone.

3. Not one restaurant has asked for it. Not one. And I eat almost almost daily.

4. Only about 1/3 of Latvians have the c19 vaccine, even less with the double jab.

5. Officially you can eat outdoors on the terraces without the vaccine passport, which makes me wonder what happens in October when all the outdoor terraces are closed. Since 2/3 of Latvians are not vaxinated and unlikely to do so, will the govt subsidize all the restaurants and pay unemployment to all the people how no longer have a job? Unlikely. Latvia has a long history of distrust in govt so I imagine restaurants will continue to break the rules and not ask for the covid passport because 1- the govt cannot pay them to stay open, and 2- most people here don't GAF about what the rules say.

With that said, coming to Latvia after October is a bit of a risk. If the govt somehow figures how to enforce the rules, this place will be a shit show. If they don't it most likely will be fairly normal.

I'm not willing to roll the dice for the winter. I'm off again to Mexico.

On the topic of WHERE to be, even during the covid bs, Latvia is an amazing place from about April to October. Nice weather, great food, beautiful and walkable city (Riga) as well as really great smaller towns like Sigulda and Kuldiga as well as some of the most beautiful natural beaches anywhere.

If you like cold weather and snow, the winters are also really nice, but as earlier mentioned this year will be a risk due to potential covid bs.

Antalya Turkey last year was great. Right on the beach, low cost of living, good food and amazing winter weather. No restrictions for tourists either.

Puerto Vallarta Mexico was great also. Amazing food, the city is on the beach but the mountains are nearby, low cost of living, tons of expats.

Playa del Carmen was my fav so far. Again, amazing food (I'm officially a tacoholic now), right on the beach, tons of outdoor activities nearby, tons of amazing resorts in case you want to do a day pass just for the resort feel, low cost of living, great entrepreneur and expat community.

I haven’t visited Latvia (Riga) for over 20 years, but have fond memories. It was beautiful then and it’s good to hear the charm is still there. Thanks for sharing.

My great grandparents fled Germany on a boat to come to Canada.

Just pay attention to where things are going.

I hope things don't get as bad as they potentially could, but just don't be blind to it!

That subject should be about where do you want to move and why, what is better about that country where you want to move, and not about the covid situation.

The covid response is the cause for me considering moving. The below headlines and quotes explain largely why. I don't care whether you are for or against the vaccine but vaccine passports are discriminatory and wrong. It is all very concerning.

2004 The Daily Telegraph, Boris Johnson: “If I am ever asked, on the streets of London, or in any other venue, public or private, to produce my ID card as evidence that I am who I say I am, when I have done nothing wrong and when I am simply ambling along and breathing God's fresh air like any other freeborn Englishman, then I will take that card out of my wallet and physically eat it in the presence of whatever emanation of the state has demanded that I produce it.”

7th February 2021, Nadhim Zahawi (the UK vaccines minister): 'Vaccine passports would be “discriminatory” and the government has “no plans” to introduce them in Britain, Nadhim Zahawi has said.'

19th July 2021, Nadhim Zahawi: "By the end of September ... we plan to make full vaccination a condition of entry to nightclubs and other venues where large crowds gather."

22nd July 2021, Nadhim Zahawi: [Suggesting which other events could require full vaccination for entry in the future]"Nightclubs and other crowded, unstructured indoor settings - such as nightclubs and music venues - or large unstructured outdoor events, such as business events and festivals, or very large structured events, such as business events, music and spectator sport events, they are the ones we are most concerned about."

22nd July 2021, Nadhim Zahawi: the NHS COVID pass would not apply to schools or universities, or "any public buildings" including Parliament.

26th July 2021: According to a report in The Times newspaper, Boris Johnson is said to be "pushing" the idea of vaccine passports for universities, although there would be some medical exemptions.

What will be next?
Restaurants? Workplaces? Supermarkets?

As for solutions, I'm not sure. A lot of developing countries have a low vaccine rate currently and so they're unlikely to introduce domestic vaccine passports in the near future. Maybe they will later as more of the population is vaxinated? For me it's a waiting game to see what path different countries take.

The link below is a good resource I found for comparing each countries response to coronavirus.

One day, in the future, Mars colonies may be like new land of opportunity. Maybe?

But for now, I'm still as American as you can get. I don't see anywhere else I'd rather live. If nothing else, I strongly believe in the ideals that America was founded on. I believe there are lots of good people out there quietly doing their duties and living virtuous lives that you don't hear from.

We may have to go through something terrible before citizens put aside their differences and unite. Hopefully it's survivable. Think back to how strong the country and patriotism were after World War II, for example. The other day I was watching a documentary on the D-Day invasion and I couldn't help but feel extremely proud and grateful for those people that came before me. Those generations were grateful because they had to sacrifice and fight through some of the most evil times in history, and that made them stronger. They saved the whole damn world and future generations (us) from evil. People need to learn from history. Be grateful.

I will also say that with big government shitting all over my liberties lately, I have a newfound appreciation for the 2nd amendment and the right to bear arms. America is the most heavily armed country on Earth and now I understand why the founders thought that was important. Of course, there are dangerous things that sometimes happen because of these freedoms, but nobody said freedom was safe. You ever wonder why people are more polite to each other in somewhere like Texas? Just knowing someone is armed, makes you think twice before you do or say something stupid. Southern hospitality ha.

Even though it is hard, I try to stay optimistic about the future. We are responsible for building that future. Don't run away from it. It all starts with the individual. Society is made up of individuals, after all. Society has gotten soft because the people have gotten soft. Grow up and take responsibility. Build your character, raise strong independent kids, speak the truth, don't be pushed around and stand up for what is right. I'm not perfect, but everyday I'm trying to make myself and those around me better. And I refuse to run away or look for an escape.

I am for people doing whatever they want as long as it doesn't violate the rights of anyone else. Not being vaxinated does violate the rights of everyone else. I am not for mandates. I am for creating a culture where everyone does the right thing for their own benefit and that of others. The world is in crisis and it looks like it will not go away unless we all cooperate. It's a time where everyone should do their part to eliminate this serious virus. We can have fun doing it and when it ends maybe we can eliminate all the violations of governments around the world. That will be the third and final stage of the social world.

Something I have noticed in the past year especially, if the government and media are talking about something, it almost certainly means the government is planning or at least strongly thinking about it. This is a very common pattern with people lying, they talk about what’s on their mind. If it wasn’t on their mind they wouldn’t talk about it to begin with.

If a girlfriend out of the blue says she would never cheat on you, she probably will.

If a friend promises you they would never steal from you, they probably will.

etc…

Typical pattern seems to be. We won’t be doing X, it violates peoples Y & Z. Later A few talking heads in media start clamoring for X. Next authorities say they are considering X. Finally X is pushed onto everyone

So when I listen to what authorities are assuring me today won’t happen, I plan for a tomorrow where it will

Fantastic resource thank you.
FFS MAN!

You haven't just taken the blue pill, you've swallowed it whole and bathed in the shit.

Brainwashed, absolutely brainwashed.

Wow.

Wow.

Wow!
