I am 19 and working part time at my digital marketing job. (24 hrs/week) at 13 dollars per hour. The ecommerce manager / marketer above me has found a new job. I am the most fit candidate for the job. It would be salary of 40k a year and full time.

I live at home and have saved enough money to start a business idea worth pursuing. Do I go full time to save money and gain extra experience? Or do I stay part time and dive deep into my business.

I have used the (WADM) WEIGHTRD AVERAGE DECISION MAKING from the book and part time came out on top. Any advice would help thanks!

If by full time, you mean working 60-70 hours per week but getting 40k, you are going to come out making less per hour and probably would not be worth it.

If it's a strict 40-hour a week type thing, that's only 2 hrs extra per day so I'd say its worth it..

Getting management experience this early on in your career can make an influence on your trajectory, and can give you more clout in executing your business and making connections. Who would you rather trust, someone who has management exp and is figuring out their business, or someone who doesn't and is figuring out their business?

You can always try the marketing manager job and quit if you don't like it, but who knows when this opportunity will come up again to be so young and have a chance at management.

If you are living at home and not paying much bills, I'd say take the bump in pay, and cut out all unnecessary friendships / distractions, and when you get home from work just grind on your business. Funnel half of the extra money you earn into your business, save the other half.

Quit the marketing job when you are consistently making more per month from the business. Or keep it and stack $ faster.

Or, don't take any of this advice and do what you feel is best.

Ultimately, what matters, is execution.

I have recently finished saving the comfortable amount I'll need to start the company. I am ready to reach out to manufacturers and secure product samples, cost estimates, negotiate pricing, evaluate financials, fixed and variable cots, margins, etc. After that I will still need content creation, operations, website creation, marketing plan, and launch.

Safe to say I'm not very far with it.

How did you validate your idea?

Thank you for taking the time to give me some great advice!!! It would be a standard 40 hour week.

I have been training for the manager position the last two days and there is definitely a lot more stress. I am worried that position will ultimately burn me out, causing me to be less creative/productive when grinding my business after I get home.

The job I have now is dealing with the flooring industry. Definitely not a passion of mine. I am very passionate about the field of my business... the gaming industry.

I guess my main question is - Would execution go more smoothly with more time and energy to spend on the tasks at hand, or would it be easier making extra money with the clout of an ecommerce manager, BUT around 20 less prime time working hours per week.

I know that might be something only I can answer, but I value your thoughts and opinions and would like to hear what you think.

I've seen the business model work in other industries that are quite smaller than the gaming industry. I have done channel research on Amazon and it looks promising. Keyword research also showed there were large amounts of searches per month.

You're welcome!

Your health and ability to execute is your most important asset. Can you do those tasks at all hours or do you need to be present during the business day?

And with a business it's not about how many hours you put into it, it's about what outcomes you are achieving. You might find that you are spending 100 hours on your business. It might be good to try the management thing just to gauge the stress level over an extended period.

Ultimately, the decision is yours. Neither is the wrong decision. Choose, act, and recalibrate based on data you collect from your decision.

Also, the 'following your passion bit', MJ has a great video on that on YouTube:
