I know some influencers on IG that are doing really well and are great people personally. This chick is just a nut job. Forget about control etc. (this is why the whole point of IG for me is to get their email anyway... I have zero faith in glitchagram being around long term)

Maybe. I'm not too sure how that affects it. Not doubting you, just that I don't know why that would have an affect.

But lot's of people getting frustrated with IG on both sides of the coin. People using it for biz are getting fed up and frustrated and people using it socially are sick of the ads etc. I see IG getting gazumped by the next new thing far easier than facebook which is more entrenched.

haha, pretty fitting that that turned out to be fake considering what's happening in the influencer world lately!

I'm still interested in the whole thing and find what can be done pretty fascinating. Obviously there are a bunch of douchebags out there (we get DM's all the time from IG thots thinking they should get free stuff because they have 13000 followers lol) but the best results I've had so far is by using influencers. Luckily I've only had to deal with one's that are good and was able to learn a bit from them.

Don't care for the influencer. What I find most troubling is the headline of the video and the description.

The headline starts with: "Welcome to life" and the description says "A rough introduction to adulthood: #Instagram ‘influencer’ Jessy Taylor is crying at the thought of having to work in the office from nine to five."

It's as if they equated adulthood and "real life" with having to work in the office from nine to five. What a sad belief to have.

The control monster will claim them all at one point or another, unless they marry rich, which they will because most of them are milf material.

Of course.

I'm not trying to argue with you or say you are wrong. I suppose you are talking about throttling organic reach? In that case yeah you are correct. It's hitting IG hard now.

This is the problem with Influencers and the idea of being "online famous". They just get paid money for merely existing, just being themselves. So any sort of hard work or labor falls under the concept of 9-5. Sounds like her issue wouldn't be adapting to an office job, it would be having any sort of identity or purpose outside of being a brand. She has to learn that she has more skills/talent outside of being popular, and that giving more to be society may be tiring, but worth it.

This generation perceives hard work as a stigma. I think it's partly attributed to premature exposure to people like Gary V preaching that they must "be their own hero" and "escape the man". Well, yea, they do. We all want to do that. But the difference is patience and discipline. Someone in their late 20s on knows enough that while working in a job is a shit proposition, it is acceptable in the short term as a stepping stone to entrepreneurship. Younger people straight up reject the premise of ever working. They want to go zero to one without hitting .5 on the way. Some of them can because of support systems. Others will probably go bananas due to cognitive dissonance.

I can agree to this, even as a millennial. Gen Z is a whole new bag where existence is entirely online. The idea of connecting with the real world in any tactile sense seems very confusing for them, and this is why I get upset that shop/home ec/art classes have been taken out of schools..because the idea of slowly seeing labor come to fruition and actually making something teaches that kind of patience and that pride is vital to keeping you go on in droughts.

The bold is the crux of the matter, if you do not have the discipline you cannot achieve anything worthwhile , it doesn't matter how much you "love it" and all the motivational bullshit. As you state they simply reject the concept of work, I'm not sure there has ever been a generation like that, we are in new territory with that I believe. The mental gymnastics they have to do are crazy, they are hopped up on anti depressants/anti anxiety/weed/drugs as their brain is literally screaming at them that something is wrong in order to protect itself, instead of addressing and making changes, they go for the pills.

What a F*cking joke.

Before the proliferation of social media everyone kind of came to their own conceived notion of what "the ideal life" meant. Some would aspire to outdoorsy aloofness, others wanted to be in the thick of business and social stakes. But it seems social media has standardized the American dream to travel, buying expensive shit, partying, and one-upping peers. I'm certainly not mad about it, these folks will make excellent customers.

Millennial households — those headed by people age 22 to 37 — a median income of $69,000, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of new census data. Millennial households are earning more money than ever before—here's why it may not be enough

and yet

Millennials between the ages of 25 and 34 have an average of $42,000 in debt each, according to Northwestern Mutual's 2018 Planning & Progress Study. Millennials ages 25-34 have $42,000 in debt, and most of it isn’t even from student loans

Dream all they want, they can't afford it.

Even though,

ccording to the Global Rich List, a website that brings awareness to worldwide income disparities, an income of $32,400 a year will allow you to make the cut. $32,400 amounts to roughly:

  • 28,614 euros
  • 2.307 million Indian rupees
  • 218,532 Chinese yuan

So if you’re an accountant, a registered nurse or even an elementary school teacher, congratulations. The average wage for any of these careers falls well within the top 1 percent worldwide.

Are You in the Top One Percent of the World?

What a F*cking joke.

The millenials and younger generations have the lowest rate of drug use out of all living generations. As a person who has struggled with addiction, anxiety, and depression, I find this post offensive and reeks of ignorance.

While a person can get hopped up on some anti-anxiety drugs, you don't get hopped up on anti-depressants nor most of the anti-anxiety meds they prescribe in current times. Despite what many believe, it is the older generations responsible for most of the drug use.

This attitude about the younger generations being lesser has been going on since the days of Socrates. People said the same thing you are saying about the younger generations about the hippies in the 1970s and so on. None of it is true. In fact, other than baby boomers (worst generation in American history by the numbers), every generation has been a vast improvement over the previous. If that were not true, we would all be screwed and there would be no progress. Millennials so far are the most educated, have the least amount of drug use, have the lowest rate of teen pregnancy, lowest crime rates, most % of income donated to charity as any previous generation in American history. They did this despite being completely F*cked over as they spent their most formative years in the 2nd worst economy in US history.

Just because SOME (as in a very small %) have the attitude you state doesnt mean the whole generation does. In fact, the numbers clearly show you are wrong. If your attitude applies to any generation, it is the vampire generation (aka baby boomers) that F*cked us all and continue to F*ck us all.

I think the critique was geared more toward Gen Z than Millennials.

I dislike the seemingly vapid influencer lifestyle as much as anybody in the past, but when I saw how much work some of them actually put into it first hand not long ago I changed my tune. They were up at 430 am to get golden hour light and location photos and video before tourists arrived, they spent hours and hours shooting, then all 3 of them (they travel 70% of the time with their friend who is a professional photographer and videographer) were editing on their lap tops till late into the night. As well as posting engaging behind the scenes stories throughout the day.

They may have been an exception for all I know, but it was a shit tonne of work and they do this 6 days a week.

I suppose there is a difference between a more serious content creator and a T&A influencer. But they do get lumped in together.

My post was mainly met at the up and coming generation Z, but it applies also to millennials also to a lesser degree. This is not a personal critique against you, it's actually not your fault as a millennial , it's on those who raised the generation, they are responsible. However, that doesn't fix anything we can spend days talking about that, we can cite stats all day either way, it doesn't really matter when it comes to my point.

The millennial generation lacks discipline and toughness as a whole, yes there are exceptions , etc. This is not good for you, as you yourself have experienced it leads to a whole bunch of other problems eventually. I want the generation to do great achievements require great effort/discipline.

I'd argue that it takes a tremendous amount of grit to be pro active about mental health and decide to take medication instead of "grinning and bearing it". Work smarter, not harder. Also, there is a point to be made that a large amount of discipline and persistence is necessary in order to continue working when you know you are buried under a mountain of debt, without the option of retirement in your line of vision.

In your first paragraph, you essentially state that you don't care about stats or facts, so what do you have to argue your viewpoint? I can see some of the critiques for Gen Z, especially since they are so new and nebulous, that stable assumptions change rapidly. But most critiques of millennials don't ring true to me after I saw a lot of peers struggling in 2008 just to pay basic bills.

I don't understand how a former McDonald employee and self described loser can become an influencer. I'm only influenced by people who've mastered a skillset or a domain not someone that's mastered taking cell phone video.

Don't care for the influencer. What I find most troubling is the headline of the video and the description.

It's as if they equated adulthood and "real life" with having to work in the office from nine to five. What a sad belief to have.
This video is reuploaded by RT, it's one of many Russian propaganda channels.
So maybe it was deliberately set up like that: obey, work hard, don't even think of hustling, see how bad US, corporations and all the West is, etc.

The whole channel praises Russia and discrediting almost everything outside... Checked their recent videos to be sure it's still the case.
