Hey guys,
I've been looking for problems to solve and business ideas to start, i've started a website but things didn't work and I've learnt the lesson.

Im 28, single, have a emergency fund and live by myself. Thing is my job is not what it used to be, i've just found out that Im surrounded by a bunch of fake people and everyday is getting harder to leave my home and go to the office. My boss saw that I wasn't totally there and invited me for a one-to-one meeting, I've thought that he was about to give me a promotion or more flexibility but not, more demands, more work but no salary increase and he put smoothly that I should be around from 9-5 everyday.

Thats Ok, I really like him as a boss but it seems like an endless circle and my body is starting to scream " I don't want this anymore ".

Im about to receive some money and if I quit I will receive a little bit more, at the end of the day I will have an equivalent of 11 months of my current expenses covered.

I don't have any other source of income at the moment but I can hustle if needed. The job is politely asking for my soul and sanity...

What should I do?

Im starting to feel like a bomb hoping to be defused.

I want freedom, I want to live and make memories... I want to cry thinking about looking back at my best years that I've spent sat on a chair dealing with plastic people pretending that I like them.

I'm in somewhat the same boat as you. I probably don't HATE my job because I have some flexibility and good co workers, which is somewhat dangerous because its "comfortable". However, that being said.. I have 3 kids, a wife, and a mortgage along with a bit of student loan debt.

I've been debating to quit for over 2 years now, but the reality is I cannot afford the health insurance costs, housing costs, due to the current state of my business.

Personally If I were you, this is what I would do.. this is some what a fantasy land for me but you're in a much more feasible place than i am.

I'll grab one of those vans that are self sustaining homes like this

2019 Winnebago Travato 59K, Birch Run MI - - RVtrader.com

probably pimp it out with solar panels and such so that way I'll always have electricity.

Grab a solid phone plan that you can hotspot your phone so you can work on the internet on the go. I do websites and digital marketing and don't need to be online to write the site itself, and when internet is critcally needed you can always park outside of a starbucks and grab the WiFi from there and get to work..

Need to strech your legs, go to a park and take a walk, go to the local public libary to find a work table.. If you need a companion, get a dog or a cat.. they do very well in those small mobile homes as well.

Travel, Save up your cash, and learn how to sell/build a business with no tethers at all.

Worse case scenario, you need to get a job, now you can get a job anywhere without worrying about relocation.

Its nice, I would just switch the vans for a near beach cheap home and a bike... Well, that would cut my expenses by a half that would give me 2 years to set up an online business...If this don't work...

but thanks for the suggestion!

What kind of money can you make hustling? IF you can pay your bills and not go into debt, I'm all in favor of quitting so you can pursue bigger things. The job can be an obstacle, but so can debt.

Break free my friend, break free.

If I were you I would probably try to suffer for 2-3 more months while you start freelancing (make money on your most important skill or learn a new one). I know it is hard to work on your own when you come home after a toxic day and you just want to relax and clear your mind. But just tell yourself that this is temporary and in 3 months time you will be able to quit that shit place.

You say you have 11 months of expenses covered. That is amazing! Maybe you cannot replace your current income in 3 months with freelancing, but I guarantee you that in 3 months you can at least earn enough money freelancing to at least cover your housing expenses.

If you can do that then your "emergency fund" might be able to last for 22 months instead of 11 months. You will of course spend some of your time freelancing, but you will have so much more time and mental power to work on your business when you are away from that toxic environment.

Not sure where you live, and what your expenses are for accommodation, but you can always travel somewhere cheap and work from there. There your money will last longer of course.

This is just what I would probably do in your situation. You know yourself what is best for you. However, for me it is clear that you have already made your decision and you are just looking for validation that it is not a drastic and stupid idea. And it is definately not. Go for it man. Your life is worth more than working in that place and with those people!

I will offer some perspective. I could easily walk off my job TODAY because my side business is doing double what my day job is. Why do I stay? Because I can tolerate the job, for now, and because I am able to get ahead so much faster. Think about it.....nearly all of the proceeds from my side business are going towards my wealth creation. If I were to quit my job, I would lose more than half of that momentum....after our living expenses and insurances.

I am going to stay as long as I can tolerate staying. I am currently working on paying for my new house build....all cash. Once that is done, I will see how I am feeling and if I want to quit my job and pursue some real estate deals, or something else.

Hope that helps.

2 years is the opportunity to try 8 different ideas.. I have this principle when I don't have a clear picture of when my income/expenses breaking even. I'm onto the next thing
good point!

Actually, I have two options... go back to my home town ( 50k people rural area ) where my daily expenses can drop to almost zero or hustle and make enough to pay the bills without any debt.

Do you plan to live off what you are doing in this thread?
EXECUTION - From Zero to Hero

Hasn't exactly been world changing so far........

I think that I need more freedom and clearer mind exactly to continue my legacy.

Break free my friend, break free.

Thanks bro!
I don't know if its doable to wait 3 months because after that I will probably take on more responsibilities at work and eventually lose the momentum, you'll never know what can happen in 3 months.
I really didn't made up my mind yet, I will do it later with a clearer mind and a beer in hand.
If I get back to my home town, my emergency fund can last even longer than that but on the otherside more distractions but nothing as my current job.
Im asking here just to make sure that im not making a dumb decision because its a really good company.

Trust me when i tell you that quiting your job is not going to suddenly kick you into entrepreneurial overdrive and that you'll all of a sudden achieve success.

It sounds to me like you're using your job as an excuse for not having achieved success yet. And that you plan on quitting your job not even knowing what to do instead.

I'd use that cash you have saved to start a business and once it shows promise then i'd quit.

@raad182 if you can't do it with a safety net, how will you do it without one?

you are already working the maximum number of hours on your fastlane plan? how many a week?

you don't want this bad enough. if it was important, you would already be making progress.

this question is another excuse..... man up and get something done. get started!!

My niece lived with us for awhile after her dad died from cancer. She had a degree in biochemistry and business. She was working for one of the big pharma names. Then one day she said to me, "I can't wash the dirt off anymore. I have to change my life." Her plan...go on walk about. Like you, she was single, had some savings to live on and could easily make living expenses with some hustle. I encouraged her to take this action. This was long before I read either of MJ's books. But I knew it was the right thing for her to do. Only you will know when you can't wash the dirt off any more. But when you're ready, you'll know... and you won't need us to tell you.

Compare worst possible downside and best possible upside?? When I’m really trying to make a decision my society would think is a big huge decision I always take into the account that I don’t live in a country or area where bombs and gunshots are an everyday thing. So in the end it probably isn’t a life threatening decision.

The biggest thing is make a decision. I don’t have my business up and running great or very profitable but I like to think I am farther along in the process because I decided to do something different than most coming out of college. I turned down like 8-10 job offers my senior year and got my sales job off Craigslist 2 weeks before I graduated. Unfortunately it’s still a job but I probably have worked about 30% less and am on schedule to make probably around 30%-40% more than most of my buddies within their first year out of college. This is kind of scary because it definitely has the possibility to make me comfortable but thankfully I still hate it and I am currently having to talk myself down from punching the company truck through the front door and throwing them the keys and my work phone on my way out of the wreckage. Don’t worry proper departure will be by the end of summer season. My point is my I Did a different job and it has paid off big time compared to my fellow college graduates who thought I was an idiot. Still agree with them a little because I didn’t manage to have my own business up and profitable by the time a graduated.

Upon graduation I bought an old vintage motor home to live in and still do. The mobility is awesome and I always keep enough money in the account to drive out whenever I want and the company I work for understands that as well. But pretty much the only difference is mobility and cutting down on the clutter. Which is pretty big. With that being said, you still have to piss, sh!t, shower, brush teeth, eat, and not freeze to death in the winter. Aka be a somewhat decent human being. So that usually requires an RV park or your buddy’s front yard and his bathroom. I’ve done both and currently go for the RV park. Bouncing from one Walmart parking lot to the next is all good and dandy until the black and grey water unexpectedly fills up and starts pushing all that slimey disgust through the shower drain. Although you can combat this by sneaking into the rv park in the middle of the night and dumping your waste in a vacant sewage pipe and don’t forget to fill up your fresh water holding tank while you are at it. Really though, I don’t trash the RV life, I love it. I am also currently remodeling the motor home as I live in it so it provides more than just a place to live. It has created something to learn from and use because it’s different. I’m all about being unique and different so it all works out for me.

I say whatever you do decide to do, own it and live it. Learn from it but don’t use it as a fake action. I would add up all the time and action you spend towards building your Fastlane/entrepreneurial endeavors outside of work. I would say if you aren’t spending at least 50% of your time outside of JOB working on entrepreneurial endeavors and at least taking action on 50% of time spent towards the entrepreneurial endeavor then it probably means you are less than 50% committed to the entrepreneurial dream/goal. Which means the rest of your time outside your mandatory working hours is prioritized to something other than entrepreneurial goals. (I’m taking into account you are single and without a family to support and take care of). Remember time spent and action. I’m not talking about just reading books all day outside of work, to me that is just time spent. I think you have to get to the point where you are actually applying knowledge learned.

I could keep going on this but I think I have put enough out there to give you an idea of the direction I’m going with this.

In the end I’m new here and I have not successfully created a Fastlane lifestyle so take what I say with a grain of salt. I my self don’t believe I am prioritizing enough of my outside JOB time to my entrepreneurial goals so to the job I come. I need to make sure I am self disciplined enough to use the time I free up, by quitting my job, to its most potential. Otherwise I can still see myself farting off 50% of my newly freed time which is even more time that is wasted and hasn’t generated squat.

All in all I can really only relate because I have made decisions that are against the norm and it hasn’t killed me and I think I’m doing okay and on the right path. Could always change though.

Even more I know for a fact at he end of the day every decision you make should be 100% your own.

Best of luck!
Riv
