So, I was taking a course the other day..

It was all the normal stuff until I went to his mentality portion and he said something that really hit me super hard.

Basically, he said that we kind of become stuck in these patterns or "loops" of existence.

Let's say your house cleaning.

Your house is super clean and immaculate.

Then as the days wear on you don't clean because it was immaculate.

A few days later you find that your entire house is a mess and you're stressing to get it clean.

You finally clean it and then the process starts all over again.

Or, let's say your bank account for example.

Do you ever notice when you hit a certain amount in your account that you FREAK OUT when your money dips below that number?

Then you hit this ceiling amount that you can't get over?

For example, someone freaks out below 1 grand and they bust a$$ to get back to 5 grand where they then start spending like wild and knock their self back to 1 grand and then back up to 5..you get the point.

Well, it's said that we live in the median of these extremities. I found this to BLOW MY MIND.

He stated the reason why this happens is that we deny what is happening and we must overcome that.

"My house is clean, I don't need to clean it because I just did yesterday." Keep cleaning.

I believe that the lowest level of standard we have is truly our highest level of standard.

Loose ends seem to create clutter in our minds and the way we handle one thing is how we handle everything else.

Do you guys agree with this?

Do you think as business owners our business is a reflection of our personal life?

I wanted to pass this along and hope someone can relate to it as I did.

I hope this helps

This is called looping. I believe people do this with their emotional patterns, mental patterns, behavior patterns, and of course it's natural cycles of habits whether positive or negative.
You can loop just editing your writing, searching for perfectionism. Re-writing stuff over until you feel it is perfect.
I believe this can get into the psychological obsessive and compulsive disorders for some people. The person who washes their hands a million times. The person who checks the door lock a million times before they go to work and lose their job because they keep looping and cycling the same patterns.
I believe it is found in various degrees in human nature naturally. We watch reruns on television, bring back trends from the past, "History Repeats Its Self in Time." My History teacher forced us to memorize that back in 10th grade. And "People tend to become who they Picture themselves to be."

I'll try this again. The looping is emotional patterns, psychological patterns, and behavior patterns. Often you can see people with obsessive compulsive disorder on an extreme level go wash their hands a hundred times and lose their job, because they can't stop looping, and going back to wash their hands even if they make it to the car and back. Some will check the door knob and make sure it is locked.

On a milder level you can loop with your thoughts by recycling events from the past from childhood trauma, romantic relationships, and constantly return backwards in time, or think so much about the future, and get nothing done right now. You can do this every hour of the day.

We can pick fear for example: If you were afraid to speak up to the CEO, you might recycle and loop all the thoughts you want to say, but when your face to face, stop dead in your tracks, get frozen n fear, and say something totally different, walk out of the room, go sit down at your desk, and than you will keep doing this multiple times, until you have the courage to confront your CEO.

With behavior patterns this is easy. You can play a video game every day, and make it habit. You're article is just a new way to recycle old information. The natural cycles of emotions, thoughts, and feelings we constantly do.

We can loop in our editing and article or book, because we seek perfect grammar. We want things to sound perfect. We might do this with engineering, building, in construction, there's always paying special attention to details.

If you do have a planner, journal, or some type of log, you can notice your habits and change them. You might even notice you use the same words repeatedly, and or read certain types of books, watch certain videos, listen to certain types of music.

You're always in a natural cycle every day doing something over you've done before. Always returning to a certain place.

Ah...well I guess I'm being tricky. :) Must be a subconscious glitch, I wanted to write it two different ways, so you could read something different twice, and "Looping." lol

Awesome examples. It's just crazy how...predictable everything is.

You can pretty much predict the outcomes of your own life by tracking habits. I think that's the first step to breaking the bad habits as you said about the planner and journal.

The funny thing about my journal is the stupid amount of optimism I have even in the crappiest of times but then I can predict a few days out before I journal a massive rant and give up momentarily.

I feel like we have to bust out of the bad ones and kind of kill off our old habits that are not good. I find this especially difficult in some areas that I find to "identify" in.

For instance, I used to thinks salespeople were like Worm Tongue from LOTR or some guy who is going to try his best to screw you and despised them. This was back when I was in the tech world and all the tech guys hated the sales guys because they received all the glory.

A few months later, after I left the tech field, I came to realize that sales guys gave the tech guys a job LOL.

There are just as many bad salespeople as bad techs. I refused to identify as a salesperson and now I make sales every day. Identity 100000, me 1, got 'em.

It's hard to kill off old identities and habits for sure.

I've observed the same thing. It transcends generations too, which can either be good or terrifying. Patterns arise from ideas, and ideas pass from person to person almost invisibly.

Our environments become the aggregate effect of our habits. Habits have triggers, things like "it's that dirty" or "the account is that low again" or even "I worked for so many days, now it's time to drink."

In some ways, it's easier to see these things outside ourselves. If you look at a business, you can tell if it has a cashflow problem, or an inventory problem. If you look at yourself, do you know if you're a hoarder? Maybe you're just saving things that will be needed later. Do you know if you sabotage your relationships, or repeat the same financial transactions thousands of times until you die? For most people, probably not. What if you're a low grade addict?

I know you're not just talking about pathological patterns, but those are easy to illustrate. Spending most of the money you make is a pattern too, but it's not considered pathological. It's probably not good for you, but it's "normal."

I think the best way out of these patterns, I think, is to sit down and design your life. If you don't think it through, the automatic parts of your behavior will decide for you. To manage the day to day, use structural capital. That means: rules, checklists, intentional habits, visual controls, etc.

I like that a lot. It's funny because I was listening to a podcast earlier and someone mentioned a book

Autopilot: The Art & Science Of Doing Nothing
Book by Andrew Smart

This book talks about how people live life on autopilot. They do everything on auto.

I've recently dedicated my Mondays to reassessment and I think structural capital is a great addition.

I actually did this last year and wrote out everything in my life from beginning to end for this purpose, to connect the dots of bad habits and patterns so I could see on a bigger picture.

I feel like we have to bust out of the bad ones and kind of kill off our old habits that are not good. I find this especially difficult in some areas that I find to "identify" in.

I believe this is what I've done in the past. I naturally recognized something wasn't right in the way my role models were leading by example. I don't want to mention who they are or status in my family out of respect or them, but fortunately, you can have generational patterns which are handed down from both sides.

I learned in my family dynamics class, I was the only one who had a generational mess. I would say in four generations of relationship skills, coping skills, business skills, addictions, etc. I stood out from the crowd of 50 students. And was the most embarrassing project I ever did, but it opened my eyes wide to see I had to break the habits for not only my sake, but my son's as well.

Are projected was making a genogram. Mapping out four or five generations of habits on the emotional, mental, spiritual, physical, and financial level.

I recommend this to anyone, for the reason being, it holds a lot of merit in why you have picked up certain habits, emotional, mental, spiritual, physical, sexual, and financial patterns, and how it can make you or break your success in all these areas in a positive or negative way.
You can see the positive habits and patterns, but also the negative habits and patterns. It gives you the opportunity to weed out what no longer applies in your personal life or your children's lives.

View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1tcrVdIYpw

I have a combination of Sidewalkers, Middle Class, and Upper class through my Geogram. What you have to do is decipher what is healthy and not healthy and take what applies and leave the rest.

Basically, he said that we kind of become stuck in these patterns or "loops" of existence.

Most people tend to exist in their zone of comfort. The examples you gave fit that 'bubble' where someone is content within a certain + or - tolerance and, therefore, is not motivated to react until it deviates outside those given parameters.

It is why people find it hard to make major breakthroughs in many areas of their lives. It is why people who are perfectly capable of earning 7 figures can't get above 100k a year. They have set that as an unconscious ceiling. Once they reach it they back off.

This is why coaching and mentor-ship can be so powerful. If helps people to see their shortcomings, their limiting beliefs and allows them to break through those barriers, sometimes with jaw dropping results.

It is also why forums like this can be of great benefit. Not simply because of the knowledge they contain but because when you see people no different than yourself far exceeding your current level you slowly see that self-imposed glass ceiling that has always been holding you back.

Exactly. Realizing you have a self-imposed, unconscious ceiling is powerful, because that realization means you've opened the door to new possibilities. The new possibilities can lead to new questions & new answers that take you out of your habits/loops. I reminded myself about the "ceiling" realization some weeks back, and asked the question:
  • How could I increase monthly revenue 50-100%
Of course for someone in a salaried job, that kind of increase would be near-impossible if they think the only option is staying in their current job. But since I'm self-employed, the answer was pretty clear.

Again & again, I see that focusing on the process--not the money per se--is what creates the change.

  • How could I increase monthly revenue 50-100%

A perfect example of removing self-imposed barriers. That then turns into:

How do I increase monthly revenue by x% in y months.

Which is much more powerful and leads to:

I will do x within y period in order to increase revenue by z%

This brings in the time equation which is another limiting factor. This sub-conscious time allocation and the perceived time / event conundrum. "It has taken me 4 years to get my business to this level. It will therefore take me 2 years to double my revenue if I push hard"

Why? What can you do now that will increase your revenue significantly within 1 month?

There is a great book called The 12 Week Year which is well worth reading and executing on.

What’s the course? All this stuff sounds familiar. Every time God sends it to me I want to throat punch somebody a little less than the last time..

I cannot seem to get motivated beyond a certain point and it’s really irritating me..

I believe the more adversity, the more obstacles, the more barriers the more limitless you become with self-limited beliefs. What you see at face value in the present moment, is sometimes an illusion. It's not your destiny. It's not your future. You can be facing death, you may be knocked down on the ground for the moment, but what I've learned it's all about your perception, how you see things, whether you control of your emotions, thoughts, your feelings, and you just remember to make smart choices. I have to say events always open your eyes, how resilient you are, how you can face anything in life, and come out better than you ever were before. It might stretch your character, you might have a few moments of boot camp in real life obstacles. I believe you can find a life lesson in any event you encounter. You can master any life lesson if you put your mind too it.

Just head over to consulting.com and it's free to try the course for 7 days. Go to Week 2 and then select "Face off with the devil"

I was curious about that course/website. Have you joined it? If so, is it worth it?

I would say from the free portion that I took, yes it's worth it "if" you have the money and seriously want to get into Consulting.

I didn't buy it because I'm not interested in Consulting as of now, I just saw the promo and took action.

The guy is legit, does all the videos himself, hundreds of hours of content.

I mean, he owns the domain for the word consulting so you know this guy is legit lmao.

I don’t think his owning the domain means he’s legit, only that he’s wealthy enough to have bought it.

In all seriousness, his course/teachings seem to fit into the CENTS model. Obviously, identifying the need is a huge part of it.
