I haven't read or watched any Jordan Peterson but the "drips" I hear around the web I'm liking.

When I heard the name I thought it was another millennial Tai 2.0 but I can see now I've been way off on that presumption.

Yea he was a Professor at Harvard, now University of Toronto.

He’s the dad many millennials never had and is giving people a well-needed wake-up slap.

His message to many millennials? Man up and sort yourself out. And he says it in a way that they listen!

I’ll see if I come across any clips that I think you’d like.

Okay, found this video with him talking about (what we would refer to as) “action faking” and why you should “just f---ing do it.” He’s taking about how it’s better to get out there and make mistakes, screw up and fall on your face than it is to sit there waiting for some perfect moment that’s never going to come, and even if it did you wouldn’t know what to do with it anyway.

“it’s better to do it badly than to not do it at all”

"if you're not willing to be a fool, you can't become a master.”

I just have to emphasize that the brilliance of his isn’t always his message, it’s just how damn persuasive he is and how he gets people to take action and actually change.

One of his things is “Listen, you want to get your life together? Start with something small. Clean your room. Start taking pride in your space" And people actually listen! It’s become somewhat of a running joke on the net.

But in terms of the video, the message I’m talking about it at 4:30

Oh @MJ DeMarco, i think another thing worth noting is his business model. He took all the ads off all his YouTube videos, which is a major outlet for him and instead he relies almost completely on donations through Patreon. He nets about $80K/mo in donations alone, which I think says so much.

People can literally access almost all his material for free. There is almost no benefit to donating to him. There are a few perks but you don’t get any new speech. No courses. No audiobook. No paywalls. You can literally access everything he’s every produced (with the exception of his books) for free. But still, he’s still pulling in a million dollars per year in donations alone.

That in and of itself is a lesson in providing value and why you should provide value first and worry about pay later.

He's also a way better marketer than most of the internet marketing crowd. I remember him writing in his introduction to 12 rules that he noticed how many likes/impressions they got when he posted them on Quora. He began with the market and then created a product. If this is not a lesson in entrepreneurship, I don't know what it is

I really like Jordan Peterson he is a smart man, but at the same time im so sick of hearing about him and everyone worshipping the ground he walks on.
yea it can get a little spammy BUT it does really really REALLY make me happy that this is who millennials are choosing as their hero... i mean when in history have kids and adults willingly listened to a Harvard/UoT professor ho tells them to clean their room

i mean shit, when I was growing up all we had was Eminem and Jay-z lol

also, for anyone interested, this is the original lecture the entrepreneurship clip is from.. it’s somewhere around the 44 minute mark

i think everyone on this board should watch this.... it really taught me WHY were so uncomfortable in 9-5 jobs. We’re just too creative! like when i’m in a 9-5 job i’m always thinking of new and better ways of doing things and the uncreative types are like “dude, just do your job” but it’s lioe clipping my wings. i’m born to innovate and following instructions is like castrating me

and i’m sure it’s the same with most of you

the clip i posted was just a huge AHA moment for me

anyway 42:00 or so was the original

Oh here you go @MJ DeMarco lol

...Peterson said he thought college campuses were “overrun, in large part, with disciplines that have, in my estimation, no valid reason to exist.”

“I think disciplines like women’s studies should be defunded,” he said. “We’re causing full time, destructive employment for people who are causing nothing but trouble. What they promote has zero intellectual credibility.”

Creative people do better when not micro-managed, and having to adhere to systems. They also make better entrepreneurs because they are used to thinking outside of conventional guidelines.

There. Saved someone six minutes from watching that video. Next thought that we don't have to beat to death?

I sure don't miss my college days. How can you say something in five minutes, that should only take 20 seconds? Enroll in college and find out. Become educated.

This is what people are liking on the internet? They must be dumb as rocks, or live under one.

Love this guy. Super super smart. Disects everything back down to basics. Upsets lots of people but willing to debate and reason with anyone.

He has a lot of good stuff to say. But he also has said a few things about topics that he isn't so informed on. But people take everything he says as gospel. He's just a person like everyone else. It's annoying people don't seem to get that. Nobody is smart at everything.

No, you were probably just lucky that your environment did not poison your thinking with "script" that you need to get out of your system.

For many people things that seem pretty straightforward are huge revelations ... and I can't blame them.
Most of what he goes into is primarily about changing the mental state of the listener and getting a sentiment across. Pointing out the full implications of concepts is just a secondary goal.

Again, it is probably not that valuable for people who grew up in a healthy environment, but especially those that grew up in "protective environments" have been fed too much BS that really did a number on their thinking process.

Not a fan of his. He talks a big game about how to be successful but lives in a filthy apartment. He preaches about cleaning your room and going out in the world and being successful but he cant get passed a few things in his own past. He's a loud voice that soy boys are attracted to because he's an older version of themselves. He gets no love from me.

I've watched hours of him this week after first hearing of him from a post on here. He seems like he might be the smartest person I've come across. I know its cliche but the dude can articulate and speak like nobody's business. And it appears he knows what he is talking about.

Holy shit, this is totally amazing regarding Entrepreneurship

Guys if you’re not watching these videos, you’re really missing out.

17:55 - why providing value is NOT enough:

View: https://youtu.be/Q7GKmznaqsQ?list=PL22J3VaeABQApSdW8X71Ihe34eKN6XhCi&t=1078

Even though he's a professor, JP might be the next great Entrepreneur of our time. He’s blowing up so fast I can barely keep up. Selling out stadiums, etc. And he’s articulate enough to spell out exactly what he’s doing, making him a great case study for people like us.

Watching the whole thing is recommended but at 0:53 is where the part that's very relevant to this thread's topic begins. Don't let the word "job" in the title deter you.

One of my business professors recently mentioned that of all the "Big 5" traits conscientiousness is the most significant predictor of success. Well, according to Jordan Peterson openness is another to consider seriously.

Use Big 5 for hiring and MBTI and/or DISC after hiring. Conflict management class. 6/15 weeks in and 100% worth it.

Hello Real Deal Denver, I noticed you often are very sceptical in your posts. Do you have a favorit speaker, or writer, or a video that really inspires you with it's insight and says more with less? Just being curious.

He’s not skeptical. he’s just much much smarter than those brainwashed drones in the Matrix and idiots from Yale, Harvard and Oxford who can’t think for themselves.

I’ve learned to ignore him.

I actually watched that last night, after you mentioned the Self-Authoring course. It seems somewhat similar to the other "self-help" stuff, but it seems more clean cut, without the "fluff". You can tell when someone really knows what they're talking about.

I'm in a similar boat as you, so I think I found my new Psych prof haha.
