Hello fastlaners. I did some thinking about things that annoy me in my personal and work life. A few things pipped into my head.

Now this might sound strange to you but I HATE HATE HATE umbrellas. One reason is because I want my hands to be free. Also getting my hair a little wet doesn't bother me at all. What does bother me is that when I hold an umbrella, my hands, wrists and sleeves always get wet. And I can't stand it when my hands and wrists are wet. And this is not just in th cold months. So I was thinking of something like transparent waterproof gloves that could go up as fat as the elbows. They would be different from regular gloves since they wouldn't be for warmth but more for dryness. In other words, they would be like rain boots except for your hands and wrists.

What do you all think? I'll post my other ideas in subsequent posts on this thread. Thanks.

My other idea is software that can port data between two completely different computer programs. This has become an issue for me at work. Half the people in my office have started doing all their work on a new proprietary program. On the other hand the bookkeeper is still using Quicbooks along with me. So when this bookkeeper gets invoices for new skus that have been entered into this new system, he always asks me enter them back into QuickBooks. So I just don't like the idea of having to manually enter data already in the new program back into QuickBooks. It strikes me as unnecessarily repetitive. Plus I think the bookkeeper will always use QuickBooks. I asked at work about why it had to be this way and was pretty much blown off. It just seems like an inefficient use of my time or anyone's time.

Now I have no programming experience. And I wouldn't know where to even start with something like this. If I knew which program to use for this kind of thing I'd gladly teach it to myself. Thanks again .

This seems to me more a logistic problem then a software problem. These kind of problems can easier be solved by good project management like getting everyone to use the same software. But that's just my opinion .

I agree about it being good project management to have people using the same software. Unfortunately it doesn't always work out that way.

This is a common problem it's why .csv and APIs exist. Before MS offered it in an upgrade,I did a macro that let people export word files as back compatible format. Nobody wanted it though, probably because they would rather just pay data entry people to do it. Suprises me how few data entry companies do this sort of thing. Would love to get a fixed rate or piecemeal data entry gig, then I can save myself a lot of time and make more and more using my software. However it is all hourly. That said you may well have a better application of the tech.

Depends on the software your using on other end, but for QuickBooks your looking at VBA or C#(not c++) You can use notepadqq or notepad++ to write the software to do that for you. Hell, you might even be able to write it in the doc, I did before.

Nice idea, I'm sure there is a fastlane in there somewhere.

Btw there is some Venture Captalists who point out that the rise of SaaS has lead to integration and backup problems. Then there are companies complaining about siloed data. Go for it.

This. It's a management issue. That new program should have an ability to export in quickbooks format, or the bookkeeper should be using that program too.

The only real solution to dysfunctional places like that is to quit and work elsewhere, and hopefully they will eventually go out of business. It's not worth the career damage of putting up with being a glorified data entry monkey because of retarded management.

Just saw this on the internet...
Umbrella Jacket

It basically solves your problem... even though it isn't gloves.

My other idea is an online directory by city of the best cosmetic surgeons and dermatologists. I'd also like to include electrolysis and laser hair removal resources. As I see it, if there's interest in one of these areas, there could be interstate in the others as well. I'm thinking it would be similar to what Castle Connolly does but specifically for cosmetic procedures. As an example, every year New York Magazine has a feature called The Best Doctors in New York. And it covers all the specialties.

This is just something I've been thinking of. Then again it may be that this is a saturated market already. Or on the other hand it could be a matter of improving upon what's already out there.

Anyway thanks as always.
