Hey,

I've been a software developer for 10 years and have spent most of those changing jobs (quitting, being made redundant and on occasion being fired ).

I've always been looking for that next payrise to make my life better. Whilst they come they've never really had the desired effect. So now I'm looking for something better.

I've always kind of dismissed starting my own business as some thing I'll do ''one day" and having just read through both the Millionaire Fast lane and Unscripted have realised that this is something that I really want.

I'm still trying to figure out the how and what, and I'm hoping to find some insight in this forum. At the very least I look forward to immersing myself in all things entrepreneurial!

In the mean time, I'm trying to reinvent myself by losing weight and I'm also giving up gaming and cutting back on TV. This is allow for more time reading and learning and then, once I've nailed down my routine spend more time on building my business.

Hmmm, maybe that's why you keep job-hopping. Software development is a great place to start a Fastlane.

Welcome aboard.

I am in the same boat minus the 10 years experience part. I am looking for something better myself and want to improve certain skills involving entrepreneurship and modern software development. I would like to start my own business, but I need to establish myself first. The right answers will come. Always consider all sides of the spectrum.

I feel your pains brother.

I started out building websites ( design ) and then later got into programming ( Perl, PHP, etc ). Then into marketing...

Anyways, like you I held jobs and then found myself out of them for various reasons.

In my life, I stopped counting when I got to 60+ jobs. If I were to guess, I've had 100 in my life. Of note, these were not all primary jobs. I am counting the 2nd and 3rd jobs I had along with my primary job.

Like you, I also bounced from employer to employer looking for the quick and easy pay raise ( and it came each time ). It's about the fastest way ( in slowlane ) to go from $29,000 a year to $100,000+.

But like you, I realized I was unfulfilled each time.

During all those jobs, I always always always had some kind of "business" of my own. It was about the only time I was happy. It just never made enough money and I was always doubting myself.

You gotta take that leap though.

I did. And once I decided to leap into it full-time, I never looked back.

Hope you can cross that bridge with us.

Thanks MJ.

I think you're right. I keep hoping the next job will be the 'one', but it never is.

Now I just need to decide the best way to turn my skills into leverage!

This is such a great reply to get on my first post.

I thought 7 over 10 years was bad!

It's funny but the times I've enjoyed programming the most was before I did it for a living; when I'd knock out tools that just helped people get stuff done - including myself.

Naturally I assumed that would translate into a fulfilling career and I can't say that is has.

Thanks for the encouragement!
