Hello everybody! I am really excited to make my first thread on this forum!

Little about me - I am a 22 year old finishing my last year in university while having started a social media agency (Yes, I am one of those...)

Now, most people in my niche is shouting - build a personal brand! It is a must in 21st century! Start a youtube channel/blog etc.

It makes sense - if a lot of people know about you, it is going to be a lot easier to generate sales.

However, there are many big businesses out there, and no one knows who the founder is. Or even if some people know who the founder is, the majority of people know the company itself, not the founder (Starbucks, McDonalds etc.)

So what do you guys think - is personal brand really helpful? When should one consider starting it?

For me, I have no problem being in front of camera and talking, but I just feel like if you build most of your business based on your personal brand (e.g. Gary Vaynerchuk), it feels like you're more like a youtuber than entrepreneur (just my personal thoughts).

Hope to hear your opinions!

Thanks

This has been a struggle of mine too.

It can help your business yes, but you have to sacrifice a lot also (time, energy, focus..)
It will definetely benefit your next businesses.

But the question is who will follow a beginning entrepreneur? There are thousands of wantrepreneurs trying to build a personal brand, they even commit more time at their personal brand instead of working on their businesses.

I do believe personal brands are a huge advantage for businesses. But I prefer to first build my business until it REALY is a business and than meditate further on the thought of starting a personal brand. And your personal following will grow a lot quicker when you're the real thing ;)

That said, if I would be in a service or teaching business I might think different about this..

I'm not saying a business brand doesn't need personal faces, that's another story.

Please share your thoughts about this and maybe I'll change my opinion!
