If I'm giving them the value that they have asked for why aren't people donating?

Every feature they have asked for I'm going to put in the app. I'm literally creating the app purely from the wants of my future customers. I literally don't get it if I made something that you have asked for and you said you would be happier with why aren't people donating to bring the concept to life? (I'm talking about my GoFundMe) please don't misunderstand me I know I have to adjust, adjust and adjust but I'm not understanding if I'm trying to make something people have literally asked for then why aren't they donating? I'm advertising in the right channels and everything.

How exactly are you determining the wants/needs of your customers? Are you sending feedback surveys or generally low effort ways to get that feedback? You might want to think about calling potential customers and doing interviews where you really dig in. If you're curious to learn more check out Y Combinator's podcast called "How To Start a Startup." It's got great examples of conducting those interviews.

I've literally asked them multiple times what they wanted and for every response that was echoed I made sure to write it down to include it in the app

That's actually exactly what they talk about in the podcast. Users typically have no clue what they actually want. You have to get to the root of their needs and extrapolate based on what you learn.

Thank you

It sounds to me that they are already getting what they want from you for free, so why would they pay?

Consider taking it away and then selling it back to them. Asking for donations you will always remain hungry.

That's not the problem. When I said donating I meant actually donating via social crowdfunding such as Kickstarter and GoFundMe. The app hasn't been made yet that's why I'm wondering why haven't they give me me their money so I can make the app so I can give them features they want. And the features were gonna be free anyway

Let's say you're a nutrition coach.

An overweight client comes to you for a diet plan.

You ask them what they want.

They say "to lose weight"

Almost a no-brainer, right?

You ask them to keep a food log for a week so you can review their eating at your next meeting.

When you review the logbook, you see that your client has been eating nothing but garbage. Donuts for breakfast. Three trips to the drive-through. Extra deluxe pizza with that greasy cheese in the crust at 11pm.

But he told you what he wanted! He wants to lose weight! How can this be?

What people tell you they want, and the kind of wanting that drives most human behaviors in the course of daily life, are two different things.

Now, this doesn't mean your client is wrong about what he wants. He probably does want to lose the weight.

But he also gets hungry. He fails to plan thanks to years of habitual failure to plan. He goes for the easy option because it's easy, because it stops him from being hungry. It's hard to turn down that hit of dopamine at the best of times. Without a process in place, people will succumb to temptation every time.

The lesson is: what people say they want, and the motivations that actually push them to act in the moment, don't usually align.

Asking people is not enough. You need some way to track the motives that get them to say "YES!"

The app hasn't been made yet...

'They' have not yet been provided with tangible value. Only the potential for it.

Perhaps, if you first provide your potential users with something useful, with the promise of greater value in the future, they would be happy to commit.

I personally would not donate money to someone saying "Hey, I'm making an app that you will like, but I don't have anything to offer you yet. You're just going to have to trust the integrity of a stranger on the internet..."

Read Spin Selling! Then ask again.

Do this too: observe and digest.

Observe without preconceptions. Don't put in your thoughts. Be curious. Take in all the information.

Learn about cherry picking. Deep in the cherry tree there's always a sweeter and juicier cherry. The pit/seed that comes from that cherry is the one you want!

Just don't give up!

.

Users typically have no clue what they actually want.

.

this is not "users" only

this is most of the population .

approach people in a social place, introduce yourself, say that you are doing a study

then ask people :

why are you earth ?

what's your values ?

what do you want in life , exactly ?

what's the purpose of life, your life ?

most people will answer absurd things that insult human inteligence

i am not joking here

that's why most people are just puppets in a giant struture called society

they work, eat, have sex, sleep every day like robots or animals for 80 years then they die

what's the point of this absurd way of living that insult human intelligence?

they live 80 times the same year. every day is the same than the day before

tr.jpg

masterminds are watching all this circus while laughing out loud

i have been studying the reality behind the show called society for 10 years

real human that honour dignity make less than 5 % of the population

i am not joking here.

Yep, I agree. I'm saying users here because that's what he's targeting, and that's the relevant section of the Y Combinator podcast I referenced.

I think the concept applies to most people, though. You won't get a good idea of what someone actually wants by asking them what they want. You have to get to know them, get to know what drives them and their desires, then extrapolate what they want from that data.

Do you have an MVP to show off to your prospective users? No.
Do you have users actively testing the software? No.
How can a user give feedback if you don't even have anything built? They can't.
Do you have any way to prove to them that you can even build this app? Nope.
What makes you so special that you expect donations on a GoFundMe page? There's nothing special about what you're offering.

There you go, I laid it all out for you. That's why you aren't getting donations.

If you're looking to get funding to build an app before you even have an MVP people are going to keep laughing at you like they already are.

I've literally asked them multiple times what they wanted and for every response that was echoed I made sure to write it down to include it in the app

Oh you wrote it down? What does that do for your prospective customer? Nothing.

People can clearly see that you don't have anything to show!

Get out there and build the app, and just start charging for it.

I think in an Anarcho-Communist world that would work just perfectly. Everyone pitches in to pay @Gaiervy a reasonable monthly stipend, while he diligently studies how to write a free app that everyone can't live without .

Why would anyone buy an app that hasn't been released?

If it's not on the app store today, I'm not interested.

You haven’t given them anything just promises.

Make the app and then ask for donations. I bet you’d get some.

These.

It looks like you have your early adopters. Perhaps you can look at creating an MVP for them for free?

Once you have a working MVP, you can then ask for donations or maybe market the app directy?

The reason people aren't donating is because you haven't given them any value.
There is a lot of value in the advice you have been given, I recommend you follow it, and as S.Y. says
Once you have a working MVP, you can then ask for donations or maybe market the app directy?

^ This, and I got reminded me of a quote by Henry Ford.

"If you asked people what they wanted and they would have said 'faster horses' " and Ford Motors wouldn't have existed.

Why would anyone buy an app that hasn't been released?
Or why does crowdfunding work?

They really want a solution to the problem the app provides and if they don't pitch in, they might not get one.

They want to help create something but are lazy.

They want to get it before their friends( I am an early adopter, I'm ahead of the crowd)

They want their names on an app, they think is gonna be unicorn, omg all the exposure I will get.

They want the rewards in the crowdfunding pitch.

People can conceive to give money to a charitable cause. But the aspect of giving somebody money to build me something that I need someway, when I don't know this person and worse that this person is an unknown folk can't be understand by a normal brain.
