Good morning fastlaner!

I discovered this forum somewhere last year while I was exploring entrepreneurship for the first time. At first the casual vibe, compared to other entrepreneur resources, I got from it was really off-putting so I was lurking on and off. The more I was reading, the more it felt down to earth and like an actual community so I gave the book a try. I finished it maybe ten days ago and I have to say, it was a great read! While there is no hand-holding, it really helped me get a clear idea of what I want out of life and the possible roads that could be fulfilling.

This is an introduction so a bit about myself :
I am 30 years old, dropped out of college twice because it felt like I was just learning how to be a better drone ( I also might have a little problem with authority...) so I've learned a trade, butchery, in which I have worked for the last ten years. Deep down I always wanted to write but necessity, partying like a mad man and the slowlane work effectively crushed that dream. Until two years ago. I discovered the word entrepreneur and like the phoenix rising, the flame was alive again.

Starting from scratch, I learned and produced hand-made soaps. I learned so much through it even if I failed hard that I want to keep trying until I succeed. I think I have identified a need for my region and I really want to go for it.

It has to do with home renovation and while we have our version of home advisor here ( more than one actually), I feel they only provide a very linear service and don't help customers make a informed decision on a very sensible subject, those hard-working people often empty their saving account in order to remodel their house. I hear so many horror stories about bad contractors, delays in material shipping, argumentation among family members about what to do. Like, almost anything can go wrong and each time the bill crawls a bit higher. I might not have worked in the domain much but I know a few people that do and I am really good at researching and synthesizing information. I want to help them have realistic expectations of what they are getting into, at what price and what can go wrong, in a better format than the sensationalist 500 words blog post that seem to be the norm.

So that's it for now, I will keep you updated on my progress and I will read yours to fuel my motivation!

Welcome to the forum.

I learned and produced hand-made soaps.

There's a thread on this inside about a soap business. It was started by @biophase and then bought by @ZDS -- if I'm not mistaken, his teenage son runs the business.

Welcome and best to you on your endeavors. Way to act.

Relatedly, seems everybody on this forum is doing a soap business. And like the housing market, beware the mess when the soap bubble pops!

I'm sorry; I had to. ;)

Thank you all! it's a bad habit of mine to forget to follow up lol. I have been busy lately but in the last two months I have read a lot of the gold thread and it's amazing to see so much people finding success in all those different spheres! I came across @SinisterLex 15 days to freedom thread and it resonate with me, it will go well with my website idea. I'll make a progress thread when I'll have something a bit more substantial.

I've abandoned that idea about a year ago although I had a very good product because, to make a short story, I let my ex take too much place in the decision making and it ruined the fun for me.

Here in Canada the postal services are quite expensive so I did not sold any online (the soaps were 5$ and 5$ to ship). An idea I had but did not follow through was gift box/basket to mitigate the cost of shipping. Where I had success selling was beauty salons and gift shops in small touristic towns.
