Hi everyone my name is Eric. I just had my second child and was going about my slow lane life until my wife introduced me to audible for my hour commute. Three months and 10 books later I have come to understand that I knew nothing about anything financial. I was ok working hard getting up at 4 to go to work and going to bed at 11 at night. New financial burden work harder. no more. I realize I need to work hard but also smart. I am 3/4 of the way through Unscripted and hungry for more. I look forward to being apart of this forum. I plan on being active because I'm tired of this way of not living and missing my children growing up while at work.

What you did a decade ago led you here some how... so you're here now and what are you going to do about it?

What is your end goal?

Apparently we all have had that feeling at some point in our life. It's up to you to do something about it.
You're definitely at the right place.
Welcome!

I'm gonna start a business based on a need and set up a system that will hopefully lead me to have more time with the family within 5 years.

Millionaire Fastlane is one of the best books I ever read. I'm kind of in the same position you are. I'm grinding it right now developing and selling products for a wholesaler. But now I want more passive income so I'm starting to develop websites...

Good Luck!

That's how I started my last two businesses. Holding baby in one hand, skyping with Chinese suppliers with my other hand.

We all would. No time for pity/regret. Make the most of what you have left.

Like, that's your day job? Or these are products that you own?

Sounds like you've developed a pretty awesome skillset. Why not start a product based business?

Where in Dallas are you at?

Welcome!

I've got 3 growing boys myself, so I completely understand your frustrations.

You're obviously no stranger to hard work, so as long as you work smart, you'll do well.

Sounds like a plan. Just understand that this can take multiple swings at the plate. You're embarking on something that is lived, not tried.

Welcome to the forum. Your children is often enough to drive a meaning and purpose.

Most definitely.

And just think -- the example you set now will save them from the same dissatisfaction when they're older.

Thank you I understand it is a journey. If nine out of ten ventures fail I will just have try twenty.

Yeah, it's my day job and my skill set has become pretty wide ranging. I work for a wholesaler and wear a lot of hats...product development, global sourcing, selling to buyers, importing and working with freight forwarders, the list goes on...

I thought about a number of things in product to go out on my own, but since I am still active in the industry I don't want to wind up with a conflict of interest. I actually like doing websites and stuff like that more so I think I want to transition to something that I can do online.

I'm in McKinney. Where are you at?

Ok gotcha.

Based on your last post, it sounded like the web design was kind of random. But if you like doing that too... go for it.

FWIW, all the stuff you listed, I currently do online, location-independently, in a one-employee business. Many others do the same on this forum as well. So, it's an option.

Man, you're really close. I drive through Denton every day.

Glad you're doing well with it. I keep going back and forth on what to do as far as going off on my own. I may make it part of a website strategy going forward.

Keep up the good work!

There's nothing you can do about your actions 10 years ago, but there's plenty you can do about your actions today, tomorrow and into the future.

The one thing to make sure is that you're actually taking actions and not action faking (I speak from experience) as the latter will make you feel like you're heading towards your dreams when really you're stationary.

Here's a great blog post from James Clear about Action vs Motion (aka Action Faking)
