Just wanted to introduce myself, and share my story. If you feel its to long, TLDR is at the bottom.
I'm a 22 year old college dropout who always wanted to be an entrepreneur and just hated having a "scripted" life as MJ would say.
But for the past 3 years I was in a commercial cult.
An MLM essentially, but the tactics they used were very insidious/unorthodox. It was all about "mentorship" and "leadership" and stuff like that. They would have big figures like John Maxwell speak at their engagements and they peddled themselves in a totally different way than the usual "sign up and get a Mercedes and get rich" hype.
But a turd is still a turd, and I lost 3 years being suckered into this soft cult, lost money, relationships, and many missed opportunities. Might make another post in the future talking more about their tactics as from an INSIDERS view, since I haven't seen much talking about these sorts of tricks they use to lure people in, many of those people being Doctors, Lawyers, Engineers, but a lot of university students as well (including myself).
Since then I've studied a lot about cult control tactics, and have seen many in what I was apart of.
That's when my FTE happened. I was heading to work at a stupid job I hated that hardly payed me anything just so I could pay for my monthly auto-shipment of products. I never thought much of it at the time (brainwashing?), but every day as I went to work for the past year I would read stories of people killing themselves to make me feel better. I would fantasize about getting hit by a car, getting paralyzed, and living off my disability checks so I wouldn't need to do this anymore.
That day while I was on the train I was googling the details of how to commit suicide via helium and a plastic bag and I remember how happy I felt imagining what that would be like, the liberation from this misery.
That's when it hit me, how absurd this was!
I snapped.
I literally said "F*ck this shit" out loud on the train on a Tuesday morning, got off at the next station, quit my job and MLM the same day, and never looked back. I stumbled into MJ's books and this forum a bit after that.
I started a freelance writing business, and three months since then I've secured $4,000/month worth of clients for around 40 hours of work per week.
Now while its not Fastlane, I'm making 2 times more than I ever did in my life, and I don't hate living anymore!
I've got a long way to go, and soon I want to start my own Fastlane business rather than trading my time for money.
But most importantly, thank you MJ for this forum (your story really related to me), and to all the rest of you for making this place so informative.
TLDR: Went from college, to cult-like MLM for 3 years, to suicidal, to FTE, to 3 months later building a $4,000/month freelance writing business and found this forum somewhere in the process. CHANGED MY LIFE!
