Hi All,
I have been lurking on the Fastlane Forum for a long time, on and off. I have started and stopped/failed at several business. A perfume business, a body care line, a candle line, photography business and creating art to sell. Mainly on the side, while working a regular job. None made any money because I was thinking small and struggle with that damn self belief. I spend all of my time not at work learning, reading business books, listening to business building podcasts and developing new skills.
Here I am again a year and a half into a soul crushing corporate job, that on paper is my dream career, except the reality is it's not. I am very entrepreneurial and always have been. I am ready to give it another shot. Because of what I have learned and done in my corporate jobs. Travel, speak and teach I have overcome the majority of self doubt. If I can do it for a company and be very successful why can't I do it for myself. The answer is I can and will.
I am an artist, photographer and teacher. I am working on monetizing those to a higher level. Also, I have so many product ideas constantly that I fill up notebooks. I love the idea creation, it's the execution and development that I get stalled at.
I'm happy to say hi and love all that I read here. Hi MJ, you rock! @MJ DeMarco

Look into the future 10 years when you're successful. What does she look like? What does she sound like?

What would your future self tell you to do, and more impotently importantly what does she tell you to STOP doing? Can you see the look on her face and feel her frustration when she tells you this?

Great, thank you! I am a big believer in LOA and do this constantly, I live in my future self. If that makes sense.

That's cool that you believe in LOA too!

AND...

I was going somewhere else with this. From a disassociated perspective (looking back at yourself now), it would allow you to see a lot of the habit loops you've been stuck in, which (in my opinion) are the very things holding you back...not the product, not the business models, etc.

. I spend all of my time not at work learning, reading business books, listening to business building podcasts and developing new skills.

This is academic knowledge. It gives you a rush of dopamine in your brain. But you accomplish nothing.

I have so many product ideas constantly that I fill up notebooks. I love the idea creation

I love dreaming up new workout routines and writing down ideas of different mountains I want to climb to lose weight.

But I'm not actually climbing them?

See what I'm saying here?

What if you pick one thing, you might already have a product created, and then focus on executing 100% on the marketing and sales of it?

I have no clue where it will lead you, but it will definitely result in something new, would it not?

So what happens here that gets you stalled?
Hi MJ,
A few things, mainly I get stalled because of the finances it takes to develop a product to market. Also, I do everything myself and then get overwhelmed in the details (I'm not naturally a detail person) then give up halfway and on to something new. I am changing that pattern. I have a hard time reaching out and asking for help or advice. I have a supportive family. Basically it's my own mindset that stops me every time. I know it's me, it has not stopped me from developing and starting new businesses. They just don't make it past the prototype stage actually making decent money stage. EEk...a wantrepreneur

OK, so you never get to the point of a sale, or a "Hey, this product rocks!" right?

Hi Lisa,

Welcome! I'm a newbie here too. I know some people with the same problem as you. I understand it is hard to juggle work and launching a business at the same time. Have you tried going full-time with any of your business?

I think it's important for you to start delegating some aspects of your business. Like you could train someone to help you with creating the products, marketing it, etc. I guess you really need it especially that you are working a day job at the same time. :)

Best of luck!

Hi David,
Thank you for the reply, I was a full time photographer but didn't make a ton of money. Yes I need to delegate eventually. What business are you working on?

Hey Lisa,

great to have you here :)

I read that you are a believer in LOA.
The idea behind the Law of Attraction is not a bad one in itself. My problem with it, is that they sell it like a magic solution that will create everything you want form nothing. I mean, yeah of course that sells books.

My advice, if you want to dig a bit deeper into this topic, is to read Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Waltz.
In it you'll find kinda the same principle. Just not as a magic trick. Rather on a psychological level.
Also, he's not saying that you just have to believe and shit will happen.
He's saying, that you need to have the right image of yourself (being capable of achieving what you want to achieve) while doing it.

After you read that book, you'll feel like the LOA guys took his psychological researches and theories and put it into something simple that the "give me everything, but I don't want to anything for it" generation would buy in millions.

Anyway, hope to see you around here a lot :)
