So, I've already ranted on this forum about the "I heard" guy who tells you he heard you can't sell into Wal-Mart because they'll murder you in your sleep, etc.

I've also had several run-ins lately with people that work for big companies in our industry telling us there's no money to be made in our space.... even though we're growing sales every day. In a way I'm glad, because I think those bastards being asleep at the wheel gives us more time to take market share before they wake up.

So, fastlaners, it's time for a communal rant to get my spirits up.

Tell us about stuff you did that people said you couldn't do.

Ha ha! Well I'd have a whole book written if I listed all the things people told me I couldn't achieve in life. I just don't listen to them anymore. I believe those who are very competitive by nature are usually the one's who make it. Not everyone is naturally competitive, and you have to have that warrior spirit inside to a certain extent. For whatever reason, I'm naturally inclined to break through obstacles, maneuver through what ever someone puts in front of me. I may have to stop sometimes to figure out things as I go, but frankly, I notice some people just do not have this ability no matter how hard they try. Usually what happens is someone will say I can't do something, and I'm rebellious naturally. I give them what they want and let them gloat. Believe what you must momentarily.

I believe most people don't understand the process period. They're searching for that short-cut and don't want to do the work. I've just learned to slice and dice who I listen too, because the majority of people around you have never done it themselves.

Hell - let's keep the ball rolling.

  • Writing and publishing a book in a week
  • Teaching myself enough German, in seven months, to test out of it in high school
  • Teaching myself two languages in three years
  • Get addicted to cannabis (then kill that addiction!)
  • Get addicted to porn (then kill that addiction!)
  • Master a repeatable process to share my language success with others.
Now let's keep grinding until I can get some financial achievements on this list. They say I can't make enough money online, time-independent, to be self substantial.

Hell what they say - I say I can earn $3,000 per month online if I want to. Let's make it happen.

You can sell into Wal-Mart and other major retailers, you just have to be acutely aware that you're dealing with an organisation that will f**k you over as soon as look at you. As long as you understand the rules of engagement and take that into account, then you'll be OK. Years of dealing with supermarkets has taught me that one.

I think people over the years have tried to tell me things that I can and can't do, but I can't recall any as I don't generally listen to them! If I want to do something, I'll figure it out and will eventually find a way around, over, or under any barrier put in front of me. The best way to get me to do something is to tell me I can't do it...

I can't be the only one who had never had "haters" or "naysayers"?

Could it be my perspective and how I prioritize and channel other people's opinions?

I got a 3, (and passed), bitch.
I heard all the You'll never amount to anything's, I used to miss a lot of homework because I'd calculate the grade I wanted at the end and what I needed to do to achieve that. So I knew I could afford missing them. They'd always be surprised by the high finals grade.
Stopped listening to teachers in HS when I realized that most of them didn't do much, harsh as it sounds. The discouraging ones tend to be those who graduate, go to school for teaching, and teach their whole life. They hang on to that school attitude. The best teachers are people with real life experience in what they teach, i.e. the banker who becomes an economics teacher.
Also in general what is (or was) taught are old ideas to which new, innovative ideas are disruptive.

Alright, let's see if I can help make this thread a good notable!

What 'impossible' thing have I done?

-Learned Python, Ruby and a little HTML (not enough to build facebook or AirBnb, but at least I know roughly how things worked, like how to store your work in Github, put up your product on Heroku and syntax)
-Found better advice and networks from strangers rather than from familiar teachers and elders.
-Joined a tough leadership camp which most of my school friends hated (the camp was like a Marines training) and ended up being involved in planning future camps, training juniors and learning much more than my peers did.
-Participated in a National-wide Bible Knowledge quiz that required me to LITERALLY memorize the whole of Luke and Acts, and I actually won first prize....

I am tempted to share my tale, but I'll save it for another time. I recently thought about it and realised that there was a FASTLANE way of thinking and acting behind it unconsciously. It's funny that you performed a Fastlane miracle without realising it until you read TMF .

-Read more business/self-development books than Slowlane academic books although the lecturers said I would be too busy and have no free time. Still got good grades.
-Found a good place with lots of dedicated, respectful Fastlaners instead of shady, money-chasing crooks of businesspeople, that genuinely want to help and give value.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

These are a few to name.

But this is what I have learned:

'Your success is the best form of vengeance!'

Where do I F*cking start?

As a Deaf person, you get used to getting heard you can’t…

In fact, people were already telling my parents that I would be borderline retarded at the moment I was born, Not able to read past a 3rd grade level at best.

Doctors, Audiologists, and other “experts” told my parents I couldn’t no matter where they went to try and find an education for me, only place that said they could was the School of the Deaf.

Which is why I ended up there at an early age, even there which was a great place for me to start, I was able to build confidence, social skills, and real self identity, but even in this safe space, there was the culture of the “Can’t” mentality.

  • You’ll never be as good as the “hearing” crowd, might as well stay here in safe little bubble in the deaf world.

  • You’ll never find friends in the hearing world.

  • Reading will be too hard for you, let me show you what the answer is.

  • Learn only ASL, F*ck english cuz its hard for me too…

At 2nd grade, I was getting in a lot of trouble for a number of things ranging from bullying to fighting with staff. I was doing this because I was BORED OUT OF MY F*ckING MIND!

So my parents gave me an option, go to the “hearing” school where SHIT is HARD.

Now, my own peers, teachers, and other adults at the deaf school was telling me you CAN’T, you’ll never make friends, you’ll never learn how to read right, etc. Keep in mind i'm only 8 years old, looking back, I was a 8 year old kid telling his teachers to F*ck off, I’m going to do this. Guess what, Transition was rough, but i F*cking did it.

Now I’m in public grade school, no longer on the short bus, but the bad a$$ huge bus with all the regular kids. I’m kicking a$$ all the way till i get to 5th grade. Ever since then, I’ve razzled and dazzled all of the teachers and gotten great grades, simply because I actually liked learning, F*ck me for that.

Now 5th grade, I have this history teacher as soon I step in that class with the interpreter. She asked the interpreter who are you and why are you here. She explains that I’m deaf and needs an interpreter. Right there and then, she said I don’t want you here, kicks me out to the hallway on the first day of school. 5th grade, confused as F*ck and trying to figure out what I did wrong. I go straight to the principals office and be like what the F*ck is going on, I’m kicked out for what?

Long story, short- Parents get involved, principal forces the teacher to take me. I mentally go in F*ck you, im gonna prove you wrong mode. Aced every F*cking assignment I handed in, aced the class had her apologize to me at the end of the school year and I’ve changed her mind about people with ‘alternative challenges’.

I could go all day on this shit, I might be cursing more than usual because this riles me up big time and drives me to do more. I’ve had tons of things that happened to me in High School, College, and the working world.

The point i wanted to put across, I’ve been doing this since I was born… Its become who I am..

Every day… I hope someone comes to me and says my favorite words in the world… “You.. Can’t…”

I always tell them..
