I had a baby boy a month ago. I'm going to college for no reason (AKA I don't know what I want to do) But it's free so why not? I work part time taking care of a special needs kid. I have a little bit of debt but not too much. It's come to a point where I'm not sure what to do with my life. I want to start making money but I'm not sure where to start. Should I do copywriting to start out? Try to run a blog selling ebooks/ affiliates? Do freelance writing? I don't really have any specific skills but I'd be willing to learn. At the same time I need to provide for my family so I need some money now and not in a year. Any advice or criticism is welcome I just need some new perspective.

I just don't understand posts like this (actually it's mentality behind these types of posts).

You're now a dad.
You're only working a part time job.
You go to college because it's "free" (As Jon pointed out it's not actually free.)
You're asking for help on what you should do.

Hint: Get off the forum and start busting your butt so you can take care of your family.

When I found out my wife and I were pregnant I was already working a full time job (40 hours/wk) and immediately started another part time job (36 hours/wk). My wife also started working two jobs. I was also selling used tires as a side hustle.

You have so many options within this forum as to what you could pursue. Hustle threads, freelancing threads, need money quick threads. You should have already been digging in to those instead of hoping someone would come behind and hold your hand and tell you what to do.

I'm sorry (not sorry) but this type of mentality drives me crazy. I'll let others come behind me and coddle you. It's time to man up and become a problem solver.

Absolutely agree get to doing something that pays you instead of wasting time on a course you are planning in doing nothing with.
@AllenCrawley I would love to hear more about your tire hussle do you have a thread on it?

I worked at a "wholesale club" store in the tire department. Most people would leave behind their old tires after getting new tires installed. If there was decent rubber left on the tires I would sell them to local used tire shops. If they were really good tires I would sell them with a classified ad. That's pretty much it.

You made an adult choice about 10 months ago. Time to grow up and man up. You have more obligations and that kid is depending on you to provide. You cannot let your kid down.

As others have said. Get a job, get two jobs, hustle stuff.

We have all had dead end jobs. You earn your stripes that way.

Here are some links that may help you get your job.

Taking a cue from @AndrewNC

I think the OP has sucked up plenty of advice the last year and not done much with it. This thread is just another one to add to the list. [HASHTAG]#landfill[/HASHTAG]

Making money online is just like making money offline - except you have to learn to use the technology and culture associated with it. But rather than focusing on specific internet gimmicks that work for other people, why not start at the root: value creation. What kind of value are you uniquely suited to create? Only after you have thoroughly analyzed that should you start to worry about the dynamics of the internet.

If it was me, first I would gain stabity. As formentioned, clege ks actually HINDERING you right now. Especially thst you are listlessly going through it. If you were laser focused on your goals in the school, it would be differant, but right now you need stability for your wife and child. Get a job.

Get any job, but get income coming in.

Right now, thst needs to be the all important thing.

Filing for incorperations, building prototypes, contacting posible investers, writing a book... All this will take time.

Right now, the number one thing should be to get money coming in to that little lady and baby. From there, work on your off hours to build your company.

You didn't listen to us in the last few posts. They all told you to drop school because it sounded like it wasn't going to get you where you wanted to go. You're still in school just cause 'it's free', barely working, and not making money.

Hopefully you will go back and read what everyone said and actually listen.

Cause why should we bother giving you more advice when you didn't listen the last few times?

I'm not sure what the landfill is, but for anyone reading in the future:

University is not a good investment of your time unless you're doing a hard science or maths. Seriously. Nothing you learn at a university can't be learned on your own, even if it were free you're better off going out and DOING the thing (say business, or fashion or writing) than "learning" about it.
Also if we are talking about "what to learn", I would highly encourage people to learn a trade. Become a machinist or something, there is a huge demand for these jobs now that everyone has been raised on the "you need a college education to be successful" lie. Seriously, 70k/yr jobs going vacant because no one has the skills needed.

Don't do the affiliate blog as your primary venture, it takes too long. If you have some money go the paid advertising route. If you really need a fast money solution do things that others won't do. Start selling something to someone - preferably over the phone.

While you work for the quick bucks I would invest in something more stable. Pick a small niche and position yourself as an expert there. Read books and teach other people what you have learned through a blog (videos would be even better). If you read just 3 books on a specific topic you will be probably smarter than 99%. After you have some following and people are coming to you for the knowledge you just start selling it as a service or as an info product.
