Aside from the sensationalist figures, to answer the heart of your question, Zimbabwe got devastated by choosing (apparently) the greater of two evils: Apparently an incompetent/corrupt government <i>can be</i> worse than a structurally racist one. Years ago, Zimbabwe had one of the most productive agricultural economies per farmed hectare in the southern hemisphere. Now the economy has been devastated and they're feeling the affects of runaway hyper inflation. AIDS is completely out of control there too.

When Mugabe came into power they chased every single white person out of the country. Those that stayed, they ostracized.<br />

When your productive agricultural economy is built and run by one demographic, then chasing out that demographic might be a bad idea.</div>
