Hello Fastlaners !

At the moment I'm working on a project named "Leinad Network & Community" and I would like to ask for some feedback.

Leinad will be a network just like Wordpress.com. Users will be able to create their own free Wordpress website. What will Leinad have in + compared to Wordpress.com:
  1. Leinad Community - My plan is to make a big Wordpress community where people will find everything they need to learn how to make their first professional website.
  2. Wordpress Blog <-> Leinad Website - Wordpress.com is more of a blogging platform. I want Leinad to be a platform where people can make not blogs, but professional websites.
  3. Wordpress.com is very limted - At Wordpress you can't install plugins, can't use all of the features that Wordpress offers. At Leind you will have these options.
  4. THEMES - Wordpress.com has just a few, uggly free themes. Leinad will offer the users premium themes for free (Elegantthemes.com themes for example).
The story:
I'm passionate about websites, I love to create new websites. I always wanted to create myself a place where I can make as many site as I want. When I have an ideea, I can make it.
When I first met with Wordpress Mult-site I already knew that this is a great feature and that I HAVE TO make something with it.
So here we are, if I finish Leinad N&C I will have my own place to share my ideas whenever I want and I also have a functional WP Multi-Site which I hope many people will use.

The http://leinad.net/ at this moment is under construction but you can still make your own Free Wordpress Website.

You can help me with the followings:
  1. Tell me your honest opinion about my project.
  2. Try http://leinad.net & give me feedback.
  3. Spread the word, help me finance my project.
  4. Donate at GoFundMe.com

Thank you in advance !

Have you seen wordpress.org?

wordpress.com is just the blogging part of wordpress I believe. Wordpress.org is where you can do pretty much anything you want and make professional looking websites. They also have thousands of pretty good themes for free. Elegantthemes are also compatible with Wordpress.

Maybe I understood your business idea wrong?

Wordpress.org is the software, the CMS which you can download and upload to your own host to make you free website !

For this you need:
1. Domain
2. Webhost
3. Knowledge

What Leinad offers: An interface where you can make your own PROFESSIONAL website (premium theme, responsive design, good support) without buying webhost and domain.
Of course you will have to possibility to buy and use your own domain name, but the host provided will be unlimited and FREE !

There are tons of free themes out there but we all know that for the best things we have to pay. If I can offer Premium themes for FREE, and eliminate the need of paying for beautiful designs like elegantthemes, I think people will appriciate.

Best of luck but nearly every host has managed WP hosting and there are quite a few dedicated WP hosts.

http://getflywheel.com/
https://pagely.com/

Not really seeing your value prop other than free but that obviously isn't sustainable. Web hosting is a commodity/race to the bottom at this point, IMO.

OK gotcha, my fault. Makes sense now.

So would it have to be named yoursitename.leinad.com?

It used to be that wordpress.org would not allow you to monetize your sites.
Of course as with many things that I say, that info is a few years old and may no longer be true.

You can definitely monetize your wordpress sites now, they even have themes that come with built-in ecommerce stores.

That's why I created this thread. Thanks, your reply will definitely help me.

I don't want to focus on Wordpress hosting.
I want to create a platform where people can LEARN and TRY at the same time.

It will be for the starters, not the PROs. You will join our community, start building your website based on our tutorials. => you won't pay hundreds or thousands of dollars for a webdesigner.

You will create your own free professional website, then when you think you can leave the "NEST" you are free to try yourself out there.

I think this idea could work, however, people are very satisfied with Wordpress (myself included) and they are giant. I only had to pay $55 for a fully functional cool looking template, and all of the plugins im using are free. I do think it would be cool to have nice looking templates for free though, as long as they're good quality, are updated regularly, and are secure.

However, there are definitely things I don't like about Wordpress. I would've been totally lost if my mom wasn't helping me; it's so overwhelming. They say Wordpress is user friendly but I don't think so lol. I like the way of editing websites where you can just edit stuff right on the page. I also noticed that you have to learn some shortcodes/coding just to change simple things like fonts in certain places. Some plugins are outdated and don't offer good support too. If you can get great support on everything, it will be great. Even better if you could offer individual consultations/help with selecting the right stuff and using it.

Luckily, you'll be able to find TONS of criticism and negative reviews on Wordpress since it's so big. Maybe you could even use that to find your main business idea, if this one doesn't work out (like specializing in helping people build their dream website with Wordpress). Some people want websites, but can't spend months learning Wordpress or spend $10000 to get it built. Maybe you could offer help by the level or something and then have good support for questions they have down the line about using their new website. I'm going off on a tangent but yah lol.

I've never tried wix or the other website builders, but I can see what people are saying about being commoditized. How are you going to offer this all free and still make enough money? I like the fact that your idea is selling shovels though!

I agree with what you said about Wordpress being pretty tough to learn. I had to watch a bunch of youtube tutorials and ask an unreasonable amount of questions on the forums since I had no website development background whatsoever.

Ick. Did you get quick good answers? I've never tried it. Perhaps a USP has been found here!

I don't use Wordpress at all.

But, I do use Yola.com and it's very similar to what you are describing.

Not at all suggesting that your site won't work. Perhaps you could check out their site for ideas.

I've been with them for several years and from what I can tell they started with a very lean operation, probably with low funding.

Since then they've created an entire community that helps one another to create websites all through a mainly drag & drop system.

They also have the premium themes and a tutorial system which you are describing, and continuously update with new features.

I think they probably started in a similar place as yourself, so it's definitely doable.

:)

I actually did get good answers, there are a lot of helpful regulars there. I just felt like I was a nuisance to them because I was asking a good number of questions every day.

NicoleMarie, thank you for your detailed reply.

That was my plan. To offer support for newbies. To help people make their own free but also modern and proffessional website without spending thousands of dollars.

Hm, interesting. I'd see it being a problem for people needing consistent help too. I'd feel like I should be paying them lol. Just noticed you live in Wisconsin too. Boo winter! :P

Tell me about it.. I'm actually moving to Phoenix within the next 7 days. I look forward to never having to shovel or scrape ice off my windshield again lol.

Thanks, I will try this site out. Let's see what do they offer.

Ahhh! Enjoy leaving ha watch out for scorpions.

I think it is a huge mistake to build an entire hosting company to teach people Wordpress.

Become an affiliate or white label an existing host and offer training info products to make the money.

Build an audience with free, high quality content and then upsell with your own info products and affiliate revenue from hosting/themes.

Basically the John Lee Dumas/Pat Flynn model

The problem with any idea that you want to test in the markets is that it must be presented correctly. Then you can gauge whether the idea has merit or not. In this case, I don't believe you have presented the idea adequately. Therefore I cannot judge it adequately, and neither will the market. The net effect is your conclusion will be false.

And what will your profit be, if you will provide everything for free?
