Who'll be taking in some of the action? Who are you rooting for (pick 1-4)?

I'm traveling to whichever country wins, so my picks are more along the lines of where I want to go haha. (They still have to have a chance to win... sorry Australia/USA).

My teams;

Germany
Belgium
England
France

Germany is my only hope.

A couple more days!!!!

Germany reason being people had Bayern as favorites for the Champions League again this year after last seasons victory and the romping's that they have been giving teams in the Bundesliga. Also winners Real Madrid narrowly made it through against Borussia Dortmund in the second leg.
They do have the quality but also a very youthful but skilful side ; I love the Germans more the fact that they are well disciplined.
I fancy Klose to be up near the top goal scorer of the competition (yet again).

Can see America actually doing well this year I think them or Columbia will be my "lucky" teams to reach the Semis

Real talk now. Brazil is always strong and will play at home. Not the best team ever but it wasn't in 1994 either... They do better under presure than being the favorites.

Argentina has a great team but they're way too dependent on Messi.

Germany is my second pick after Brazil.

Spain is almost the same team from 6 years ago, and tic taca hasn't worked well in the past 2 years. I don't bet on them this time around.

I think Belgium is going to be the biggest surprise. Could they win thogh?

And as aways a great team falls early on and an underdog makes really far.

I think Chile will do well too.

Any bets? ;)

Soccer (Football/Futbol) was the sport I played the longest so far in my life. Years and years! I miss it man. I was reading the thread of the guy who is getting paid to play (but not too much) and I felt what he was saying, lol.

My #1 would be Spain because they are a great team and because of my Spanish ancestry ;) I also have Scottish (I'll go with England though) ancestry so I'll go with that as #2.

I like the French (sexy girls, EDM and house music, etc.) too so that will be my #3 :joyful:.

#4 Would either be Germany or Italy.

Germany - The best well rounded squad in the tournament, in my opinion. Not to mention they are practically half Borussia and half Bayern so their chemistry has got to be pretty well off. Neur has got to be the best keeper that is still playing (I would say Buffon but he is getting old) and even with Reus's injury they have an endless amount of subs that are equally as fitting and qualified.

Brazil - Another solid squad - they are known to be a top contender year after year. They have a few veterans that have 'been around the block' but also some young talent to bring some spark to the lineup. Defensively they have a lot of older players that know what they are doing and some of the best defenders in the world (Maicon, David Luiz, Dani Alves) and in the midfield and front line they have outstanding speed and ball skills coming from Lucas, Oscar, Hulk, Ganso, and Ramires. Plus Neymar is phenomenal :D

Spain - Similar to Germany - all around solid squad with a lot of experience, they know what they are doing for sure. Torres needs to not shit the bed and play like he did on Liverpool.

Portugal - A personal pick here because of my love for Ronaldo. Defensively they are a little weak (Coentrao, Pepe, and Bruno Alves are all decent but not top notch) but they have a really strong midfield with some players that aren't so well known but play with intensity and fire (Meireles, Moutinho, Veloso) and of course their strikers are some of the best in the world (Ronaldo obviously, but also Luis Nani and Ricardo Quaresma are both very solid players).

Hmm...well since I'm in the Netherlands and my friends have the whole dang apartment already decorated for the event, because that's their style, I don't think it would be a safe idea to cheer for another team with a bunch of Dutch Guys drinking beer. lol

I knew right away when I saw your name haha.

If they win, I'm off to Sao Paulo.

hahaha!

However, you did mention various teams that I also believe have a strong chance at winning.

BTW - Are you going to visit those places or live there for a while? Sounds nice!

I'm just going to visit the largest city of whichever country wins.

If England, France, or Belgium win, then I've got to go to smaller cities in those countries since I've already been there before. If England wins I'm actually going to Scotland (they are the highest ranked football nation that's part of the UK other than England obviously).

I've got a system for this whole thing haha.

Well... Probably the first time since decades that Belgium is popular amongst the possible runner-ups for the WC! :)

Nonetheless, I think we have a good chance to get into the Quarter finals.. Probably semi-finals, but actually winning the finals? I'm not so sure, we have superb individual talent and a great team-spirit.. Yet our boys lack some cohesion + almost all of them have played a very long season with* their club... I'm a bit worried that they'll get tired during the WC..

My top 5 is:
1) Brasil
2) Spain
3) Germany
4) Belgium
5) Portugal (I feel as they can outplay Belgium, but I've got to stand up for our boys! :) )

If Belgium wins @RichKid, make sure to stop by at Ghent & Bruges... Beautiful cities! I'll pass along some belgian (fluid) treats if you'd be up for that! :tiphat:

Brazil, Spain and Germany are my three I believe could win it, I also think Belgium might have a chance. I'm from England and Nigeria so I'm going to be supporting them even though I doubt they're going to win it, I would say both these teams could make it to the quarter final.

As long as France doesn't have a total meltdown like they did last time. They were one of the favorites in the last tourney

I am proud to say that I picked Spain to win the last one. I haven't been following much this go (I've been focused), but it's statistically unlikely that Spain will win it again. My gut is telling me Germany since they always have a good team and are due, but it may be a South American team this year. Brazil is going to have a good shot, since it's all on their home turf.

France for me. France is having an amazing pre-season. Just defeated Jamaica 8 - 0. With Benzema, Pogba, Matuidi in form they should be a threat for the cup.

I was actually in Paris, France during the 2006 world cup final match. It was insane... they started burning cars after the loss.

I was in Brussels a couple months ago. Cool place.

I"m sort of biased towards the french portion of the country though. (I like to practice speaking), although the Dutch portion is generally nicer.

Lol Daniel I guess you are not close to your Scottish family at all. We don't route for the English they hate us and safe to say the feeling is mutual when football is concerned.

Soon as you come to Scotland i'm buying you a beer lol. Good old pint of Tennents lager.
This country is actually stunning when the sun is out. Otherwise when its raining and cloudy we use the term "dreecht"
I definitely fancy going to France again Paris (center) was beautiful.

Alot of hype and pressure will be on the Belgians. They do have an amazing side with Kompany , Hazard , Witsel , Mertens , Courtious they have a solid 11 actually. But if Hazard or Kompany get a knock the side will fall apart.

Croatia (me)
Portugal (wife)
My friend actually fancy's Croatia to be a shock. They always do well in competitions. I love Jelavic being a Rangers fan
