Hi guys
I'd like to get some feedback on a business idea I started about a year ago but have really only dabbled lightly in. I think that now might be the time to change that and start putting in a more serious commitment.
The website is http://ultimateguidetochile.com.
I want to provide services to english-speakers looking to relocate permanently to Chile. My strategy is to fill the website with great content about living in Chile, use that as a kind of honey pot to attract the kind of person curious about Chile, then offer personal services such as:
- Translation and guidance with applying for a visa
- Apartment-finding
- Guidance and translation in applying for health insurance
- City mini-tours
- Hotel bookings/arranging taxi from the airport
- Help with importing personal goods tax free
- Help with finding effective and inexpensive storage solutions in Santiago
Now, I am well aware that this isn't a fastlane business idea. It is limited and heavily reliant on my personal time. But it's better to start at a walk than a run, I'm not happy with my job and I want to be in control of my own income. This is how financial independence starts, and I think this could be a good way to do it.
So far I have had a few email enquiries through the site but no solid leads. I'm sure with a bit of effort in providing excellent, high quality written content, this would change.
The only thing I need to do is provide some commitment. I'm quite disciplined, and could commit to spending at least one hour of solid time on this a day plus eight hours on the weekends - that's definitely possible with my current work demands.
My other best option I think is to approach local businesses here in Chile and offer web design services. I'm not an expert by any means, but I understand hosting and can throw up a good-looking themed wordpress site quite quickly. There are many local businesses in Chile that don't have a website at all and would like one.
I am fed up with spreading my efforts. I want to concentrate on just ONE THING and focus entirely on that for a period of at least three months. I have to choose one of these two options.
I'd love to hear feedback from anyone on either of these ideas. Living expenses are cheap in Chile, all I need to do is make $500 a month and I'll cover rent and food plus a bit extra. If I can earn that on my own steam, without being reliant on a job or an employer I will be in a very good starting place.
