The forum now has a bookstore powered by Amazon...

Visit:

Book Recommendations for Entrepreneurship Marketing and Success

Basically I'm going to monitor this forum (Book Recs) and keep track of user recommendations. If something is highly recommended I will add it to the bookstore ... this way we can keep track of books that have a Fastlane perspective.

No book is exempt from being added -- if it is useful to life/happiness/business/etc, it can be added.

So if you gotta "must read" book that would be of benefit to your fellow Fastlaner, please let us know!

Please note: Listed books are not to be interpreted that "I've read it and loved it" -- a book showing up in the store should not be construed as my endorsement or recommendation -- but just to say that it has been recommended by others here.

Many of them I haven't read.

Enjoy!

Trust Me, I'm Lying by Ryan Holiday

"I hope they serve beer in hell" is a book that was about some guy going around the country, getting drunk and sleeping with women. He turned it into a movie. Ryan Holiday was in charge of promotion/marketing of that movie. What does he do?

1- Buys 2 billboards in downtown Los Angeles advertising that movie
2- Gets spray paint and a ski mask and writes "pig/womanizer/etc" on them
3- Takes pictures and anonymously sends them to the media outlets.
4- Buys advertisements on woman's group websites and church websites to cause a protest of the movie.

5- Sit back and watch the movie top the charts from all the free attention given to the movie

I really like two of Lonnie Scruggs books Deals on Wheels: How to Buy, Sell & Finance Used Mobile Homes for Big Profits and Cash Flow and Taking the Mystery Out of Money. I highly recommend both, even if you have no interest or involvement with buying, selling and financing mobile homes. It's like getting a financial education from Uncle Jesse from the old Dukes of Hazzard show, he teaches concepts like the Time Value of Money and provides practical instruction on how to use an HP financial calculator.

The most interesting thing about these books is that most financial self-help books approach the subject as if you are the victim of a predatory society that is determined to get you into debt. But these books teach you instead how to adopt the mindset of the financer who lends the money using property that can be repossessed, not the hapless debtors on the other side of the transaction who only care about low monthly payments. It is a real eye-opener and Scruggs is very entertaining to read.

A book i'm reading right now, 'Pitch Anything' by Oren Klaff is really a good read. Im only about half-way through, but it really is one of the better books iv'e come across so far.

It's about how to pitch to investors, but I find its more a total 'pitch yourself to anyone' and sell yourself type of book. Think salesmanship 2.0.

I'll update when Im doing reading it!

I've not read his previous works but Robert Greene's latest book Mastery is recommended, especially if you are a fan of Malcomm Gladwell's Outliers

It's also the first work of Robert, that I've been reading at the moment. Really awesome book, he talks a lot about masters such as Darwin, Einstein and other legends in all fields about how they think, the process they been trough for achieving mastery, how they achieved mastery, the 10.000/20.000 hour rule and he show's you how you the detailed steps on how you can find your purpose in life and then how you can master it very different from Outliers who just gives you story after story without telling you the steps to achieve mastery yourself... highly recommended book :)

Thank you for bringing Who Owns the Ice House? to my attention. I've been reading it and have to admit some parts have brought me close to tears. Basic stuff but very powerfully presented. Anyone who absorbs this book will find it difficult to make excuses anymore. Since I've been reading it, when I've felt the urge to sleep in or laze about, it's like I can hear Uncle Cleve and Ma Ponk's voices and words. I never expected that this book would help make it easier to get out of bed! "Mix em up, boy: hard work and book learnin."

This is a book recommendation that you wouldn't THINK entrepreneurs would be interested in, but it's one hell of a lesson on bootstrapping:

Rebel without a Crew: Or How a 23-Year-Old Filmmaker With $7,000 Became a Hollywood Player
The book's written by Rober Rodriquez, Direcor of El Mariachi, Desperado, Once Upon a Time in Mexico, Sin City, Grindhouse, Spy Kids Franchise, Shark Boy and Lava Girl.

The guy wrote and planned the movie while doing drug trials so he could make money to fund it. He 'faked' everything... he borrowed a camera to shoot the thing... he cut the trailer first and started selling the movie to studios before it was finished... in the end credits he listed a bunch of fake crew members to make it look more 'expensive' for when he sold it.

He cleverly positioned himself to create a bidding war on himself between big movie studios... and he came out on top. GREAT book.

Absolutely. Cialdini did an excellent job with this book, the examples and stories that follow each and every concept flow brilliantly. I have a printout of my highlighted sections in the book sitting on my desk at all times.
