I have been reading a lot on the forum, lots of interesting business authors (including Cameron Foote and others who specialize in my field--graphic design), and re-reading the Fastlane. It is wonderful to be on this learning journey!
In the last few months, my billings are way up and growing fast. I work for two major corporations. One has agreed to give me a sizable per-hour increase in September and I haven't approached the other yet. My billings should be 6 figures next year. My husband is my part-time helper now, so I'm not feeling exhausted all the time and can bill double when we are both working at the same time.
If/when I lose one of those corporate accounts, it would be a big setback, so I'm planning to start more marketing. Cameron Foote says large companies typically won't consider home-based designers for major projects. I'm considering renting an office, which would be a big increase in overhead.
Before I go the office route, I would love to get some good advice.
1. Can a graphic design studio be a fastlane business or should I stay working in my home office and use some of the money to fund a fastlane something else?
2. If a graphic design studio can be fastlane, what would that look like? (I specialize in design for print.)
