MJ,

I just finished the book. I had heard great things about it from one of my friends, who's also on this forum. I gotta say, this was definitely a good read. It's really a new mindset compared to what we've been taught growing up. As someone who started full force in the slow lane and is starting to make the transition to the fastlane, I felt great knowing I had embodied some of the concepts you had mentioned. Unfortunately, I also had some of the failure traits you described, namely "polygamy" and confusing passion with "doing what I love". I'll definitely add your advice to your repertoire and approach my business interests with better insight.

I had already started to make headway within my journey towards the fastlane. Your book and this forum are giving me extra motivation each day to stay focused until I reach my goals. Thanks for the inspiration.

I finished the book on Friday. I have to say, it was great. It was really right along my line of thought the last few years, and this was just confirmation of what I was thinking.

I do think I'll re-read it, however. About halfway through the book I thought, "Man, there are a few things I wish I had written down."

Time to get started. :)

I really needed this during a time where a lot of my family & friends are being downsized including my company I really felt I needed some direction; I love that this book encourages thinking outside conventional wisdom and demonstrating, not merely speculating, how to do great for one's self by serving others. Thank you MJ for opening up my world :) Found you through Foolish Adventure.

MJ,

Thank you for this book. I have had the feeling, since I was young, that the people who work 40-50 hours a week for 40 years are crazy. Somehow, though, I have found myself heading down the same path that they were one.

I've always had an entrepreneurial bent, but sometimes struggled to find a way to express it and make money. From selling cinnamon rolls to teachers when I was a kid, to joining Amway when I was a young adult, I have tried dozens of different ways to make money. Some actually made money (selling cinnamon rolls made me more than Amway ever did), and some were complete losers.

For the last several years, I've had a "business" that brings in about $300-500 per month without much effort from me. But I had no system, and attribute that level of income more to luck than anything else. Yes, I put in a lot of work at the beginning, but I didn't know what the next step was to take my income to the next level. And, all this time, I've been following the "worker bee" path that so many people are on, and hating that I have become like them.

Along comes your book. I'm not even sure how I found it, except that something pointed me to Amazon and I stumbled upon it. I downloaded it, and started reading, and couldn't put it down. I think I finished it in two days, and I'm 1/3 of the way through a second reading.

What can I say? This book makes me understand why my "business" was stalled out. It makes me understand why doing what I love (personal finance) was not necessarily the best road to follow. It has helped me understand so much about what it takes to become successful, and I've realized that following the Dave Ramseys of the world will not help me get rich while I am young enough to enjoy it.

Probably most importantly, it helped me understand the level of dedication it takes to become rich. You described the hours you worked to build your business up to the point where it was a success, and I realized that I am getting what I deserve - a paltry reward for my pitiful efforts. I have nobody but myself to blame, and conversely, I am the only one who can turn this around.

I've already taken one of the first steps you recommend - putting my pocket change in a jar at the end of every day. One step at a time.

I've also been analyzing my current line of business, and determining whether it can take me where I want to go. The short answer is, "Maybe," but I think I have found a better way to reach my goal. You made it clear that it is far better to be deliberate in choosing my road than to set off blindly and hope that my idea has enough legs to take me on the trip to wealth.

Anyway, enough rambling. Thank you, MJ, for writing this book, and for being honest about what it takes to become rich.

Great book MJ,

I always thought that there was just two gears when approaching things in life and business. Now that I realize that even though I have a business I am in the slow lane, I will be moving over to the fast lane asap.

I had so many ah hah moments. If you put them all together, I think you could make a song.

Thanks for the "Game Changing" info.

I read the book! As an avid self help/business book reader I have to say this is one of the best books I've read. I've probably told 10 people about the book and so far I don't think any of them have bought it, but I do hear them moaning about the confines of their lives. Where there's no action there's no progress, right? Anyway, I loved the book. I think you need to make a workbook/study guide for it so that a person can more fully understand the whole picture. I know I will read it again so I can soak more in. Thanks for the information! There's alot of stuff in there that makes a lot of sense.

Am sure you've heard this a million times but this has to be the best book I've read in years. I am so amped reading it but have yet to finish.

The slapping in the face thru the Sidewalkers and Slowlaners sections is just what we need to wake the hell up and get in the FastLane. Love how MJ writes, blunt and to the point, so sugar coating anything. It's here, take it or leave it, cause life is the same damn way!

Awesomist book ever, period, point blank. I cant wait to finish it cause I want to reread it again, am already formulating ideas of ideas i've had for many years and never done anything for.

When I woke up this morning I decided to finish this book off. I've been reading it a little each night before bed, and I must say it's definitely given me a new outlook. Other books of this nature are good, and I believe any book that gets you thinking about becoming more than a 9-5 worker is great, but this one really made it realistic. Although I was a bit bummed reading the "don't do what you love", I understood the concept, but then realized it's more about need and consumer demand than anything. I think I can still do what I love, I just need to incorporate it into a need/want that people are looking for and definitely sharpen my edge so I can stand out above everyone else. I'll also say I'm glad I wasn't bombarded with constant product "plugs" like some other books do, *cough*RobertKiyosaki*cough*. It's clear, well thought out and definitely worth reading. I'm glad I bought the book, and I must say I really enjoy this forum. I've been looking for a forum like this for a while but never knew this one existed.

Like another member I was supposed to be preparing for finals and wandered off to Steve Pavlina's forums where everyone was talking about this book AND we had a visit from DeMarco, so I bought the kindle version and read it in one sitting outside on the deck! My plan after finals was to spend the summer working on my idea. For the most part I knew about the JOB (just over broke), the slow lane, etc., but the math and the commandments gave me a light bulb Event! Especially the commandments of scale and entry.

I currently have a 9 -5 and I am going to school. I had my own business, sort of, it violated all of the commandments, and got my teeth kicked in, so I had to stabilize. But I am itching to get started on my new venture.

Thanks MJ

Fantastic read. One of my favorite biz books. Already convinced one of my friends to pick up a copy. I've been collecting business ideas the past few months now, keen to test out an idea or too shortly. The framework provided in the book will be very helpful in selecting which ideas to pursue.

Wow, MJ, awesome book, man! I've read a bunch of business books - probably like most of the folks here - but this one really woke me up. It was one of those choices that came at the right time for me, as I've begun to examine my own beliefs and self image. Probably why I picked it up in the first place.

I've been totally guilty of thinking money was limited and time was not. I can now see that it is my time that is limited and what I fear the most is the loss of my freedom. What has been stopping me is some sort of irrational fear that by pursuing my ultimate freedom, I must give up whatever freedom I have right now. I suspect this is pretty universal.

One of the things I realize I must do is to examine that fear more closely, because debunking it is key for me. It's what's been keeping the brakes on my life. Aside from that, I can see how why I've always felt stifled and dissatisfied with the consumerist culture of my job (graphic designer). I don't produce anything. It's all pushing crap for others to consume. I gotta say: I'm tired of it.

Thanks for a kick-a$$ book, man. I look forward to reading more stuff on this forum.

- Pete

Finished the book last week and loved it. It's the only business/lifestyle book I've read where I was nodding to myself the whole time in agreement.

Initially I just wanted to just get the physical copy from Amazon but after reading your free pdf I just bought the full pdf version straight away. Just done reading it a night ago, nothing short of gold. Planning to re-read it a few more times to get it into the back of my mind.

I'm very glad you didn't give up completing the book the times you felt like you wanted to MJ. You're a true inspiration! Definitely going to recommend the book to my other buddies who share this burning desire to get on the fastlane!

Kudos! :eusa_clap:

I also have read the book and cannot rate it highly enough! it actually caused me physical relief to read it, why? well because it explains clearly WHY I have had this "nagging" feeling for so long that the normal messages I have been bombarded with since a kid were going to shortchange me in the longrun, yes the longrun, everything takes so damn LONG in the slowlane! I knew there was another way to do things and MJs book confirms it.

I have always been searching for how to do it quick, but not easy, the exact message we get with this book, I don't want to see "get rich NOW without lifting a finger!" or "I got ripped in 3 days following this ONE simple rule without stepping inside a gym"... because I know that is all BS, I just want to understand what it takes to achieve wealth and what I kind of mindset / vehicles i can use to get there, I feel like this book gives me all that in one place.

It is also the first book that got me taking some type of action almost immediately, now THAT right there makes it special.

I want to read it again and really ingrain these principles into my daily life.

I've been weaving in and out of the sidewalk and slow lane.

Starting today no more...
