Isn't this a George Carlin quote? I'm trying to lookup which act or book it is from, but I'm coming up short. Makes me think this was one of those quotes that was wrongly attributed to him.

Either way, a presentation on Carlin's philosophy would be pretty cool :)

I think it was Carlin, So good call.

Hey guys, based on some feedback from last year's B&P I would challenge you guys to present topics that would appeal to the larger audience. Based on feedback is that the most interesting presentations are at about a 100 to 200 level college course and broad enough for people to be able to absorb the topic and put its knowledge to use instantly.

Just an example of how I approach my presentations: I did an SEO presentation last year. I did a quick summary of how SEO basically works and then explained a strategy and how it could be applied. My hope was that people from all levels of knowledge got something out of it. I am pretty sure that people with no SEO knowledge probably did not understand the strategy that much, but hopefully they learned how SEO worked in general. The opposite was true that the people who knew SEO didn't really need to learn how SEO works again but hopefully learned something from the strategy that I explained. The goal would be that at the end of your presentation, everyone who listened to it would come up to you and want to ask a question about some part of it.

What I did not want to do is present some complex strategy that only someone struggling to go from Google #2 to Google #1 would use. That would probably go over the head of everyone except for a few people.

Other presentations I remember off the top of my head:

Bill's presentation on calculating risks can be applied to every business and even life choices.

Terence's presentation on how to do business in China. While not everyone is planning on doing business with China, his insights on how the Chinese do business and what they value is valuable information to know.

Rakona's PPC presentation can apply to countless businesses.

I really don't want this B&P to become anything where people are afraid of presenting something or we approve topics. I just want presenters to think about what they present and base their topics on what they know about the list of attendees and their backgrounds.

For those who can't think of any topics:
Case studies are always interesting. People also do love to hear about how you make money or how you tweaked something and increased profits. Or any business strategies that you are trying.

Great point, since i have always struggled to get folks to understand what i am teaching I will take some extra care and gear my two presentations on how to apply them both to a broader audience. The first one will be more of a case study, the second was about what enabled me to do that and how it can be applied.

Would we have time to do 2? (i've never been so i dont know if there is excess time or not) and if there is, should they be split between days?

Great stuff, Bio!

Presenters, please read Biophase's post about broad college level stuff. This is the best summary I've ever seen for presenting at the B&P.

And yes, it is a Carlin quote.
HUGE thanks to BflBob for organa-manizing the presentations.

Figured out my topic. It will encompass what you guys wanted to know about the school and will definitely help everyone out. I have almost tripled my sales so far in my school with these new ideas on marketing so I know that they work. I project that by the end of this year I will probably hit at least another 100% growth.

"How to apply New Marketing to the New World: How marketing and advertising had drastically changed for all businesses and how to apply the new stuff to your business and get results!!!" !!!!
I couldn't come up with a better title in 5 seconds but that's what I'm going to cover.

Hey Russ,

I'm not sure if I can attend all 3 days. I will be in town so I'd like to come and will most definitely do all 3 days if I can . I also have no problem paying the full regi fee to support the cause if I can't make all the days and I can do a 10-15 min presentation, no problem. If this is ok, let me know and I'll register. Since this is a topic thread I was thinking of giving some insight into list/lead generation, management and brokerage.

Any interest in a presentation about the oil and gas business? I could give an overview of how we develop oil and gas fields with emphasis on the "shale" plays while dispelling some of the mis-information we see constantly in the media. Will have to think more about providing "actionable" information, but I'm sure I can come up with something!

Sounds interesting esp if there is a focus on small scale investments and what really goes on in that level. Oil and Gas is always interesting!

I'll be interested to hear another perspective on it. I worked for Halliburton for over 8 years. Also, I have 3 leases now and they are crawling all over me for more.

Tony - I won't be able to make all 3 days either, but hopefully you'll be there on Sun b/c I know I'll be there for the whole day and I'd really be interested in learning about list/lead generation.

What it comes down to is how many appointments we have schedule and now that we have a pack and ship company in Tempe that might be working with us by giving us some of their clients in exchange for a referral/office-usage fee that might mean we won't be there on Sat(as this is the day we would work out of their office).

Either way, we learned a lot last night from none other than Trevor "the toe-cracker" Crook. The most important part was that headlines are about 80% of your article/newsletter - without a top-notch headline no-one will read it and it will be hard to build a list.

Sounds interesting to me aswell.

Who do you refer to in "we develop oil and gas fileds"? your business, or the market in general?
(I am just wondering if you have a business in the field - I remember reading about some of your RE and Ebiz ventures)

Would be great to hear (in a level, unbiased tone) where the media screws up, and why.

Also, your thoughts about the future (short, medium, long) term of oil and gas.

I'm referring to my regular j.o.b working for an oil company. Am still doing the RE and ebiz on the side...

My other option would be to discuss some technical stock trading work that I've been doing. I think I'm onto a decent strategy and would be very interested to get feedback from other people who are trading on technicals...anyone planning to attend B&P doing this?

As I said above, I *think* I'm onto something. Don't confuse that with "I turned $500 into $5MM last year with this strategy." If there are other technical traders coming I may go this route rather than oil and gas....

I originally thought I won´t be presenting, because most of the subjects I feel authentic enough to talk about are not very bussiness realted, as the main themes I can contribute about are Military, Israel and Backpacking.
Russ´s constant inquires about what everybody is presenting about made me rethink.

Any interest on the following topics:

1) How to motivate your employees, even when their job is crappy (lots of experience with that in the military :smxB: ).

2) Real estate in Israel and why it can be an interesting investment.

3) Something about Israel and entrepreneurship in general?

“There are more Israeli companies listed on the NASDAQ than from all of Europe, China, India, Korea and Japan combined.â€

4) Backpacking

That being said, I really dont think that everyone NEEDS to present.
Presentation time might be used better by people who have more relevant things to share from their experience. I am sure I will get to know you guys and share thoughts and experiences in the "out of the classrom" time :smx6:

All I'll say is that some of the best presentations we've had over the years came from people who thought they had nothing to share.

I'm voting for backpacking, because I know so little about it.

By the way, I'll be contacting everyone for contact info, etc. Should have an email out tonight. Please respond ASAP so I can get the list to everyone.

Wow, I would be fascinated by any of these topics.

#1 (how to motivate employees) is prolly the one that has the most relevance, for me.

But any would be interesting-- the RE investments in Israel could very well spark some interesting conversations, since it would present (I assume) very different ways to own a home.

I will present, but still undecided on topics. Some I am thinking about:

1 - General overview of asset protection planning

2 - More specific topics related to asset protection planning, ie. for RE investors, for home owners, for small business owners, for equity investors...

Would love to hear as much as you can squeeze in about both of see topics!!

To be candid, since my decision to attend is somewhat last minute, I hadn't really planned to present anything at all. But if the afternoon runs short, I COULD throw something together on fixing personal and (more importantly) building business credit, if at hasn't been covered lately. But as of now, I'm kinda planning to be the fly on the wall. (Is that selfish?)

Glad you're coming.

I think how to build business credit would be cool. If you know how to get large lines of credit, or the process of buying/selling shelf corporations for their credit, I'd be really interested.

I need your help.

I'm having a hard time picking a topic.

I've done past presentations on everything from "Maslow and the Fastlane" to "Working your Plan".

We're not that profitable right now, and are doing a buzillion things to turn that around. I'll be happy to share what worked (next year), once we have figured some of these things out. But now is not a good time for me to be giving out business advice!

I've been doing a ton of stuff on integrating social media (videos, reviews, Facebook, blogs) into our business. We're also working on SEO-- but I have a feeling that whatever I'd say about SEO, the comments from the web folks would be a LOT more beneficial/informative!

Still, that's part of the reason I'm throwing it out there-- I could share what we're doing to improve our rankings and traffic, and you all could give me feedback.

That's pretty selfish though-- I'd probably wind up getting more out of it than the group!

Or maybe not-- maybe if we looked at our biz as a case study, it would be interesting/informative for all-- esp based on the expertise/feedback from the other fastlaners.

Thots?
