Wow, you guys saying 10% of a ton sounds like a lot more than what is actually is. I guess you guys could use some motivation.

What about putting your desired weight and give a date when you want to reach it.

For those of you with iPhones, there is a calorie counting app out there that works wonders. It allows you to vary your diet but still stay on top of what your intake is.

Remember, the only reliable way to lose weight is to reduce you calorie equation.

calories in - calories out = a negative number

I'm using an Android app cleverly called "calorie counter." It's free, and does a great job of totaling up calories, fat, carbs, and protein as well as tracking daily exercise and normal burn-rate to give you a net calorie surplus/deficit. Good luck to all!

I'm planning to get back down to 185 lbs with a combination of exercise, supplements, and "lifestyle changes" (I hate the 'D' word). Basically, I'm planning to follow the Tim Ferris' Slow-Carb plan outlined in this Blog Post.

He says you can lose 20 lbs by simply doing ONE of the three: exercise, diet, or supplementation. This seems a bit of a stretch, so I'm going to implement all of them.

I may have a tough time for the next month since I'll be traveling a bunch. Vegas this weekend, Cabo after that, then B&P...hell, maybe I'm a regular Tim Ferris Protege!

Do you guys really expect any chicks to join a thread that seems to require that one post her current "fatty" weight? Seriously?! LOL. Not in a million! I will, however, post with the provision that I can just use gain/loss numbers! Thanks for starting the thread.

Goal: Lose 54 lbs. From May to Sept 23 (day we left for the B&P Cruise) I lost 32# net (probably 40# of fat, less 8# of muscle gain, but we'll just stick with straight weight here for simplicity.

Starting with Sept 24, as soon as we boarded the ship, we started eating and imbibing as much as the largest Hoover on steroids that you've ever seen. It was almost as if we were trying to see who could eat the most, creating fabulous momentum that carried us all the way through the Holidays! And since it wouldn't be fun to exercise while gorging ourselves, we went from working out 6 days/wk (including, but not limited to at least 100 miles/wk on bike) to NOTHING - NADA - ZILCH.

Result: I gained 18 back. So now I'm just down a net of 14 towards my goal of 54 total pounds which I want to lose. 40 to go.

Plan: My sweet Bobo signed the whole family up for a 6am Boot Camp Class at Cooper Aerobic Center. I'm not a morning person... at all. First class was yesterday.

"1977!" I shouted at the instructor as I touched the baseline and turned for the other end of the court.

"What's that?" she responds.

"The last time I ran wind-sprints - - in 8th grade basketball."

"Well then it's about time." she said.

She was right. It's about time.

I couldn't get out of bed this morning. But we're eating salad today instead of chips and beef queso; water instead of ritas.

It's about time.

I just got back a cruise too! There is something about that environment where all you want to do is eat and lay around. We were seriously eating 6-7 full meals a day + Desserts, because it was delicious and free! I had brought my gym clothes and planned on working out, but there was just something about the gentle rocking fo the ship that didn't make me want to ever go see where the gym was even at! haha Talk about a terrible environment for someone trying to lose a few pounds.

Boarded as a passenger, rolled off as cargo. I'm terribly focused, when I focus on doing things right I'm very good. When I focus on finding more ways to use wine and butter... wellllllll....

Goal: Did my first 100 mile bike race last August, will finish in top 100 this year in that race. (5000+ enter)

Goal 2: Complete 1 half triathlon by August, 1 ironman by End of year (targeting Tempe in November)

Goal 2 is another sign of post cancer dementia. Life handed me "hey, maybe it's time for you to die" last summer and I responded with "Go F*ck yourself". Wonderful motivator :)

I figure if I eat clean and do that kind of cardio then the weight/fat issue will be a side effect but I'd like to be 30 pounds lighter and resemble a runner/swimmer instead of a major home appliance. Even lean, I tend toward bulky with thick chest, thighs, shoulders...

Okay, I'm in.

The wife and I have made our New Years (New Life) commitment to each other that we will lose a human being between the two of us - somewhere around 130 lbs combined. She will not be joining the Fastlane Fat Club, but I will chronicle my journey here.

First off, my official starting weight will have to wait until tomorrow morning when I wake up and weigh myself - I'll provide that number then, but I believe it will be between 225 and 230 lbs.

The Numbers:

Age: 34 (35 in February)
Height: 5'09"
Build: Not muscular
Beginning Weight: TBD
Goal Weight: 160 lbs

Other Factors:

Lower blood pressure. I currently am on BP medication and still average readings in the 145-150/90 area - I don't even want to think of where it would be without the meds!
Lower cholesterol.

I truly believe that if I could get even within 15 pounds of my goal, the blood pressure and cholesterol issues would resolve themselves and I could rid myself of the medication - I hate having to rely on medication to keep me healthy, or as I like to put it, place a bandage on my gunshot wounds!

While I don't know that I will be capable of losing 70 pounds in 6 months, I do know I am going to do everything in my power to get as close as possible.

It isn't just the "losing weight" thing that I am interested in. It isn't a diet. It is my awakening - my rebirth and reclamation project of myself. I have always been able to lose weight quickly, but just as quickly put it back on. I want to be 160 lbs for life! Not for 6 months or a year.

I want to live the next 40 years of my life in the best physical condition I am capable of being in. I want my children (which I don't have yet) to know their father, and for their children to know their grand father.

Is that asking too much?

My plan is quite simple:

· Eat less than I currently do. Consciously listen to my body and stop eating when I am full. Eliminate the notion that I have to clear my plate every time I eat. I have been dabbling with this for the past several months and I believe that I over-eat by about 2 to 3 times what I truly need to feel full and satisfied.
· Focus on eating high fiber, *good* carbs (whole wheat, whole grain instead of white, etc.). Eat a lot of fruit and vegetables, and low fat meats.
· Don't "fall of the wagon" when I stray. One of my biggest "diet killers" in the past has been allowing "cheat days" to turn into all out cheat weeks, and the next thing I know I am no longer even eating healthy!
· Be physically active. It is an understatement when I say I am not big on physical activity. I at least want to increase walking - focus on improving my cardio.

It seems simple, but that's what I need. I also have to be prepared to adapt when what I am doing stops showing me the results I am looking for.

Good Luck to all my fellow Fastlane friends on your quests to health. I hope we all reach our goals.

Andy

I bought some frozen dinner, "Lean Cusines" for the first time in my life, and they are actually tasty and not bad in amount of calories. I feel we are what we eat, more than the exercise we do. I absolutely will not diet, been there done that. So how do you guys ensure that you eat well and healthy? Cooking takes too much time.

But most of them are full of carbs and sodium.

I beg to differ.

An egg white omelette with veggies: 3 minutes - (s)low carb, healthy protein, filling
Seared chicken, asparagus (or whatever you like) beans/legumes: 5 minutes - "
You clean up whatever there is to clean up while they cook.

It takes 5-6 minutes to thaw a lean cuisine in the mike.

Bobo is our primary cook around here. But we try to always have on hand a bag of frozen fish and frozen chicken tenders (from Sam's). He grows a lot of our veggies in his organic garden. But if you aren't so inclined, at least keep a bag of frozen veggies at the ready to nuke. Always use chicken or beef broth instead of butter to flavor stuff that usually calls for butter (except cookies, of course! ick) and you'd be amazed how easy and tasty it can be.

.

I agree about the eggs. I make 3 of them everyday. 2 for me, 1 for my son. I top it off with salsa for me, and some cheese for him. My daughter enjoys granola bar, cranberry juice and sometimes an apple.

When "watching my weight," I shift my eating habits from carbs over to proteins, fibers, veggies and fruits. It's amazing how much healthier I feel and how much fuller I feel despite eating smaller amounts of food.

Women's health and Men's Health magazines are great sources of info regarding nutrition and the common theme is that if it's not grown or hand picked, then it's probably not that good for you to eat.....

AGREED!!!

I thought Kurt already said no skinny people allowed!!! After all, the title of the thread is "Fastlane FATTY Forum" !!!!

agreed. skinny people stay out.

I could not update yesterday because I was out of town with a group of folks from my church. I totally fell off the wagon, and got back on just so i could fall again.

This morning I was back to where I started. I thought I would be in heavier than I was last week, so that is cool.

This week I am starting a very low carb diet for 1-2 weeks just to get things kicked off right.

Ok, where are the rest of the fatty updates?

I have a suggestion. This is from the Zone diet which I've followed for many years.

For each meal, protein should be size and thickness of the palm of your hand. Look at your hand, take off the fingers and thumb, result is a round piece of meat about the size of a decent burger patty.

Carbs, clench your fist tightly, that is the volume of processed carbs like pasta, rice, bread or take both hands and make a bowl shape facing upward, that is the amount of carbs in veggies and fruit.

Fats, if they are in the protein and carbs (fat, sauce, etc), no need to add any.

Once you finish if you feel hungry, just wait, it takes your body 20 minutes to tell you brain that you are full. Just drink some water and wait. You won't be hungry.

I have started again to focus on eating regularly and making better food choices. I have managed to lose 2.5 pounds since the beginning of the year. :)

I am not going to post my starting weight (call it vanity, lol) but I will say I need to loose 40+ pounds and my goal weight is around 120-130.

Back between the last meet up and July, I had lost 10 pounds but I put it back on again between Sept and the end of the year. I attribute a lot of that to adjusting my daily routine and working from home. I hope it comes off as easily as it went on (fat chance... pun intended?)

Looking forward to getting rid of the extra weight again!

Agree on the slow carbs.... for me, no booze and no white carbs is a must for fat loss.

At the end of the day my preference is to be moderate on the diet end, plenty of clean protein, moderate on the healthy fats, keep the carbs to fruits, veggies and whole grains (wild rice, Quinoa, steel cut oats)

The real key for me is very simple - two hours of cardio per day, every day, once hour in the morning, one in the evening and light weight workouts three times per week. The last thing I need is more mass but it sure is more fun to lift than it is to run. 220 this morning. I'd happily give Wheels 20 pounds of muscle if he'll take 20 pounds of fat with it... rebuilding the muscle would take little effort and wouldn't require me to emulate a hamster on the wheel.

Can't update weight, cuz I have no idea. I'm just going off.... how the jeans fit and the frequency / quality of my physical activity.

So, this week, I spent the first half actually mentally committing. The second half I:

Went on a 3 mile run. Okay. Lie. Went on a 3 mile mostly walk. My ankle bothered me more than I thought it would. Hoping this will reduce with time. Thinking it will. How can I think any other way?

Did 30 minutes of Cardio.

Resisted the cookies my daughter baked.
