I went to a boxing class about a year ago where we were taught a new combo for the first half of the class, and then it was sparring the rest. Over the 10 rounds of sparring with my first partner, I learned a painful lesson really quick that I've since applied to business. Take the body blow, protect the head at all costs. Don't waste time throwing body punches, unless they lower the guard for the head, because you're only aiming for the head.
See I learned that if somebody hit my body, I could take it. It would hurt like hell sometimes, but I was never out of the game. But if somebody landed a punch to my head, no matter how light? I was disoriented, I lost my focus, and unless the other guy backed off or I put my guard back up by some miracle, it was game over because there was no way I could take the series of head-shots that followed. It goes the other way too, if I wanted to end the spar, I wasn't going to do it by wasting time on body shots. I had to aim for the head. Not to mention that if I spent all my time and energy trying to block body shots, I'd never get to landing hits of my own.
It's the same thing when trying to scale business from scratch. You have a million problems and things going wrong (body blows). And if you waste your time trying to fix them, you'll get nowhere. The only problems you need to concern yourself with are the headshots that will either put you out of business, or disorient you so bad the path back is a living nightmare. Whether it's something you see coming tomorrow or a year from now, you need to protect yourself against them. But all your other problems. F*ck 'em. Slap a band-aid solution on, or just take the blow, because it's not worth your time. These kind of problems will drag you down and waste your time until you don't have time to pursue your actual goals. You NEED to have a clear view of what the head shot that will get you the results you're after looks like and single mindedly go after it. If it's not an action that will grow your business, then it's something you need to slap a bandage on and power through. Then once you scale, you can hire somebody to deal with it or buy that expensive solution or piece of equipment. But your focus can't waver from the head shot.
