It's not going extinct; it's becoming web-only. It has had its web directory for ages now.

This seems to be primarily a cost cutting measure (and probably 5 years too late)

It all started with Zip2. Most successful concepts and companies don't perish - they adapt.

I think the last time I looked inside a yellow pages was over 15 years ago.

Even their website is pretty garbage if you ask me. Generally when looking up companies/info if I end up on their site by accident I usually think "ah shit, I don't want this" and back out.

Funny this morning I found a Yellow Pages on my front porch. Doesn't really shock me -- my little town has a median age of 92.

YP should have died many years ago. This is UK news so I wonder if US is following suit. I still get phone books dropped off at my house and still see companies advertising in them and think wow. They failed to adapt, even with their website, which still sucks. Website is not user friendly at all.

Funny this morning I found a Yellow Pages on my front porch.

I find it really useful for squishing down the other discarded paper in my recycling bin. So it has that going for it. Is there an award for heaviest paper waste product?

Just got an updated Yellow Pages guide a few weeks ago, and literally had the conversation at that time.. When are they going to stop being so wasteful? They need to adapt or quit. Yes I know they have a website. And I also know many luddites will be without their beloved YP to look up some "AAAAAAAAAA AC" or some other Bozo gaming the YP naming.

I am just glad to stop getting this, and immediately putting them in the recycle bin now.

There's a scam that has been running for decades. Years ago we called them 'BLOWERS'. They are people who call you to place high price advertising in magazines with official sounding names. They even send you a copy. The sad thing of course is that the only people who get a copy are the people who advertise in it. Your advertising dollars wasted.

YP can still sell advertising in directories that nobody uses. Still money in it.

I can't wait to get my copy of the Yellow Pages. It's full of businesses already spending money on advertising and who might want to spend it better. All neatly packaged in one book for me.

I wonder how many other marketers use it to ring businesses soliciting?

(I don't actually do this btw... just wondering if lots do and businesses get swamped with calls from marketers and agencies.)
