Folks, I think it's very important for us to live in a place and a city where we feel well and happy. You have no idea how this can affect our productivity and our general satisfaction with life. Unfortunately it is far from the case for me. I live in a F*cking crappy appartement and I hate my neighboors, they make big noise all day long and it drives me crazy. I hate it, And the cold winter doesn't help.

The good point is that it motivates me to work on something. My health is so bad that I can't get a job so I have no other choice to force myself to do business. At least my parents help me financially.

If you don't like where you live, it is your responsibility to do something to change it. And I know it's hard, but you have to believe in yourself.

OMG, you're back!!!! Sorry to hear things aren't well.

And yea, moving to a sunny place was the best decision I've ever made.

Yup. I remember growing up in (suburban) London, thinking that the place was a total dump but like all capital city folk who haven't ventured far being brainwashed into feeling that it must obviously be the centre of the universe. Dirty, grey, inconvenient to get anywhere, everything so sprawled out and disconnected, lonely and isolating, hours and hours spent on public transport staring out at boarded up houses and graffiti, surrounded by the miserable grey-faced masses.

Moved out of home at 22 to the other side of the country, to one of the few parts of the UK that's still the ever vanishing "green and pleasant land". Best thing I ever did, too. Soon I will move again, as I no longer feel I belong here, only this time it will be overseas. Much harder to do emotionally this time around but it must be done.

I'm sure you'll get out, also.

I recommend you buy a masticating juicer and juice vegetables. It cures most health problems. It benefits your health more than anything else. Someday you'll succeed and it will be sweet.

In all seriousness, this dude is right. Juicing has improved literally every aspect of my life after my deep depression and massive crash and burn the last 5 months (long story which will have a thread dedicated to it, I have alot to talk about)

I'm seriously now considering moving to Scottsdale or Flroida, leaning more heavily toward Scottsdale. Although in Florida you got beaches with bikinis walking around, which could also be had 3 hours away in Cali if you were in Arizona.

Tough decision.
Btw how are the girls in Arizona? [emoji16]

I think I'll take dry heat, mountains, modernization and Mexican food over bugs and buttery thick air.

;)

I may move to Texas so I can get more sunshine for Vitamin D in the colder months and pay no state income tax. Also Texas is pro gun rights and has good home prices, at least in some parts. If it's humid in Texas, I can buy a dehumidifier.

Some of us can´t even do that, because we are "trapped" by families...
in a kind of a prison

Lol, i remember how we went (when I was young) - into a kind of bar (about 1 km from our home) and we were there until about 22/23:00...

My mother allready stood at the house door with a kind of latern (lol) and said that they were going to search for us, even though they allready knew where we were.
____________
Now (I´m 18 allready) - and my parents are STILL trapping me all the time like i was a little child.
Whenever they go, they often insist i go with them.

Jeez, i remember how i spend days just in the car, mindlessly traveling and wasting time with my parents.

Now they still think i should be with them all the time, and that i should drive the car with them, because i have a driving license (and they think they know to drive better than me - and are just poisoning my subconcious mind, fkers...)

Not to mention how my insane parents bough a flat that nobody should have bought - because its a flat-and the house prices here are low as f***, yet they PAYED MORE FOR RENOVATIONS -(about 80k € - for which they COULD HAVE BOUGHT ANOTHER FLAT/house easy, but worst of all - they were wanting to get divorced for ages, so the value of the flat is now at about 100k, when they payed about 2x for it alltogether)

And my father - all he does is swipe credit cards, is aggresive (as is my mother aswell), but managed to recover from some debt that he had. Thinks that all people with good cars are thiefs. Has lived with his mother for 40 years and bought only 2 cars in his life(or 1 I guess?)
My mother - always complains about the government, and how they are the cause that she never made more than about 2€ / hour, is jealeous of everyone that makes more, and curses at every person with a nice car, because she is envious of it(especially the woman). She also says that every enterpreneur is a thief and both parents say that capitalism is worse system than socialism, and they both want socialism back, lmao...

All my family thinks this - they are all freaking insane.

And for example my grandparents - they are like vampires - they call my phone always at the worst possible time, and when i get angry, they do everything they can to ruin my life.

And "each time" i was about to make some money - they call me in (from another city - subconciously knowing), just to halt/prevent me...
They have such a joy when I am failing / about to fail, which i tested numerous times - last time was with my end school exams : I showed them a kind of fake information (which i knew was fake), and they ENJOYED reading the parts of the text, that were the circumstances under which i would fail at school (although they were fake...)

Exeter for a few years, now in Bristol.

Yeah, winter has a huge effect on my mental health. It's almost like a climate-dependent manic depression. Bristol is a pretty good compromise for opportunity vs lifestyle...but it's really expensive to live here nowadays and getting moreso. My rent's just gone up 10% and I could get the same quality and location in Manchester or Glasgow for not much over half the price. It's a pretty amazing place to live from April through September but the whole city just kinda goes into hibernation in the winter.

The UK doesn't make much sense either financially or from a lifestyle point of view. Up north may be a different story, but then the weather's even worse! As my friend in Canada who lived here for five years pointed out, in Canada (or the US) you make twice as much money and your living expenses are half.

^ Agreed on the UK weather...I get so much more done on the rare days when it's sunny outside, even if I don't leave the house. Environment is a big factor for me, and one I will need to change in the next few months!

I'm thinking the same, only Nevada. Vegas is incredibly inexpensive to live in, about the same as South Dakota. No income tax as well, and gun laws are similar. Plus that heat, I'm about sick of the snow.

Oh cool. I hear Bristol is pretty good.
100%. Have you ever heard of Seasonal affective disorder(S.A.D lol) It's a thing:
http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/Seasonal-affective-disorder/Pages/Introduction.aspx

It's a joke, for our generation it seems like you either live in your home town with parents until you can get on the property ladder or you rent for YEARS.
It's Fastlane or die in the UK and then escape anyway haha...

One of the only obstacles to doing something abroad is that it would either take years to get residency / high buy in costs somewhere like Australia.
Or set up somewhere in the EU and you've got the language barrier. BTW Barcelona is an emerging startup hotspot as well as being an incredible place to live...

Oh it's definitely Fastlane or die here. No salary is ever going to get you where you want to be, especially as we get completely screwed on salary taxes but corporate tax rates are reasonably competitive.

Lisbon looks like a good place to go to save money and get something off the ground. Very cheap, great weather, nice lifestyle...I'd rather go to Thailand or Vietnam and cash in on the APAC market but the legalities of staying there are difficult if your business isn't purely online.

I bought a LIFX bulb as soon as they were open for pre-orders after their kickstarter for this reason. I use it as an alarm in the morning, it slowly glows a brighter yellowy/orange mimicking sunlight. For the first 5 minutes I'm waking I'm definitely happier thinking it's the sun haha. Also taking vitamin D3 but I can't say there's been much difference, I doubt I'm deficient.

Yup.

So true, it's all about capital gains. I can't believe the lack of ambition I see in others when they are content with their salary.

London atm. On the fence about it though. Higher salaries (as a launchpad), many meetups, potential mentors and successful associates which I think are harder to find in the smaller towns, opps for offline Biz, selling into companies etc.
But the costs are damnnn high as you'll know. Plus I would never settle here. It's even more of a make the money and leave sitch!

Have never visited Lisbon but it does like great for sure, it's on the list!

What's APAC?

Yeah. Costs are high and quality of life is low. I can walk to pretty much anywhere in Bristol I want to go in 20 minutes from my front door, the nightlife is better and more accessible than London and there's amazing countryside on the doorstep. Funnily enough everyone who comes to visit wishes they lived here instead!

What's APAC?

Asia Pacific - East&SE Asia/Australia/NZ.

I'd love to go to Hong Kong but with the visa requirements and cost of living the only option is getting an expat job, and then an investment visa when you've got the cash saved up to invest into a serious business.

I live in Quebec, Canada and the weather is terrible. The F*cking winter is killing me. Sometimes it's - 23 F. How can you expect to be happy with this coldness. It's even worst when you don't have a car.

I lived in dormitory and faced similar problems especially when I wanted to go to sleep. Earplugs helped me a lot. And it also drived me fu***** crazy.

World citizen living in Spain / Germany
This is why I moved from cold and rainy Germany to southern Spain.
Having sun and over 20 degrees 300 days a year is giving me so much power to follow my route.
Weather and sun has so much influence when it comes to good mood.. Being able to recover quick and make the best out of few hours of relaxing.
And getting out of your daily habits and not being surrounded by the old "friends" and no sayers is also a big help.
Can highly recommend it to everyone...

New York is a great state to be in, but I can definitely use a warmer climate. If you can afford it, the best thing is to travel around and see how you like other areas before you decide to move anywhere.
