There has been a lot of emphasis on the idea that the fastlane is all about accumulating millions of dollars in a much shorter time than everybody else, and it seems that millions is the goal for a lot of people here. That enables you to drive supercars, get big homes, travel or whatever. Nothing wrong with wanting that. Better aim for success than mediocrity.
For a few days after I read TMF , the idea of owning an awesome supercar one day was growing in my head. Then I snapped out of it.
For me, I just want freedom, free time, being able to go and do what I want without concern over money. To be clear, that does not include living in material luxury.
I don't really care about getting a great house, a boat, or material things in general. They would definitely be nice, but I don't care either way.
The pinnacle of financial success for me would be growing an almost self-sustaining internet business that I would only need to water for a few easy hours a week, following a few years of hard work. That business would grow over the course of many years, providing a modest income for me to never have to 'work' again.
Even if I could build an income eventually of $30k+ a year, that would allow me to save up and live well in a cheaper country without having to work ever again - of course I would have to perpetuate any online businesses or start new ones if old ones decline (if I fail to keep them growing despite efforts).
I think that's pretty cool and pretty fastlane. Sure, millions of dollars are great, but at least for me, definitely not needed to get everything I want out of life.
