The recent string of bank failures has got me thinking. What happens if your online brokerage fails? By this I mean that the individual stocks in your portfolio still hold value, but your brokerage (Fidelity, TDameritrade, Scottrade, etc.) goes under? Can anyone share some knowledge about how this would play out? Are any particular brokerages "safer" than others to keep large stock portfolios in?
