Yesterday, I sat at my desk, staring at my laptop, asking myself:
“Can I really do this?”

Maybe I need to learn a bit more.
Maybe I need more time.
Yes, maybe that’s it…

I got hungry, stepped out for a snack, and stopped at a small roadside stall.
At first glance , no one behind it, but then I looked closer.

Two kids. Maybe 10 or 11.
Selling snacks, dealing with rude customers, making money.
Living in uncertainty, and taking action anyway.

My first thought?
“This is child labour, where are their parents?”

Then it hit me.

While we sit, overthinking our next step…
These kids are already out there, hustling, facing the world head-on.

So I bought from them, not just snacks, but belief.
If they can bet on themselves, so can I.

What are you so afraid of?

Somewhere between school and adulthood, we’re taught:
“Comply. Be safe. Don’t argue. Don’t take risks.”

No.

Argue. Hold your ground. Step into uncertainty. Have fun while doing it.

If this reaches even one person who needs it mission complete.

Maybe, I noticed this now that I’m moving and I will have to do with renting a small room/studio because I’m also paying for my office. I’ve never been a real cheapskate towards my friends and now they started saying “You?! Living in just a room? You’re not able to do that, you’ll be unhappy”. Even tho deep inside I know that I’m mentally at a point that I can think myself grateful and happy in almost any situation (the trenches in Ukraine would probably be the limit)

Yeah totally agree with this post, one day you’ll die and you will either have an hero’s story full of failures, mistakes and agony or you’ll have the losers story with some funny party tales. The choice is yours

This is a great question that I meditated on a few months ago...

The deepest reason at the time was "afraid of running out of cash", which prompted me to build the habit of saving money for the bad days instead of being a pay-check to pay-check.

Now I have 6k saved up.
It buys about 12 months of living expenses and can be stretched up to 20 if I really need to.

Inertia is the only real thing stopping me now.

I see that too much praise for "talent" makes me scared to take risks or to dive into the deep end of the pool. Why risk failing when I am used to always being good at stuff?

I think something I‘m afraid of is for my bubble of believing that I have something of value in my hands, that I‘m currently working on, to burst. To get out of that stage of working on it, just to realize that there wasn’t actually a (big) need for this. Because right now I‘m still a bit away from presenting the final product to those who might find it helpful, and until then it still feels quite cozy and safe in my own little bubble. Only one way to find out. But I‘d lie if I‘d say that I‘m not a bit hesitant and scared to move outside this bubble.

I'm afraid of being a normal Joe Bloggs from around the block, who has a steady 9-5 and gets by.

I simply cannot sleep thinking that there's people who can do what the F*ck they want.

That being said— I'm always scared. Of everything. But the pain of living in mediocrity outweighs the pleasure of avoidance.

Some have it and some don't.

I want to extend this topic by adding one input into this
from one of our trusted community member antifragile

I had once asked him this and got this answer we can learn from him->
Hope you don't mind me sharing this @Antifragile here
From Antifragile:

what are the things that scare you?
what will you try doing this week because of our exchange here?

Here's a tip: do something that scares you.

Nothing stupid (like base jumping) but we have 1,000 things that are safe
yet scare the shit out of us.

Do those things.

It'll conditional your brain that things we are so worried about rarely ever are as bad
as they seem, and 9/10 times never even happen. Build up that courage.

I used to be scared to call people. Then I got a job at a call centre! Day 2 and I felt nothing,
not a thing.

Most recently I was scared of talking or meeting big politicians.

At the next opportunity I went up to (hopefully) our next Prime Minister and we chatted.

I was a bumbling idiot, but trust me - every next time I got better.

Then I had to speak to 200 people ... I could have asked one of my team to do it, but because
I felt a little scared - you guessed it, I did it anyway.

That is from antifragile and our homework is to do something this week to get over fears yes this week! Go after it!

No good story happens from things going right.

So when things go wrong, take it as a sign that the story is about to get interesting.
What are we really afraid of?

Usually, whatever fear our parents, teachers, or society handed us.

When I lived in Mexico (I’m American), I was floored by how entrepreneurial people were — even the kids.

But it didn’t feel like “bravery.”
It felt like culture.
They were just repeating what they saw.

Throwing myself into environments where what I want to achieve is considered the norm?

Easily the best life hack I’ve found.
