I'm 83% red for the day.:bgh:

Fortunately, I had a few stocks hit my target highs during the past 10 days and sell.
Otherwise I'd be bumming...nothing worse than getting 98% to your goal before a retreat.

NOTE: I have tightened stops in several of the positions.

Yesterday is why I tightned my stops. It was mostly a red sea on my screen! But, we knew the pullback was coming. I explianed it in detail on a blog post last week and updated it today. I tightened my stops due to those reasons explained. If anyone is interested, you know where to find my work. I am not going to repeat here in the forum (too long and too boring).

Don't panic, follow your rules and you will be fine. A lot fo people are now in panic mode. it will be interesting to see the Monday morning open. Don't sell at the open, wait for the first 10am (or so) bounce and unload IF THAT IS YOUR PLAN.

What I am worried about is that this crap will offset a great quarter earnings report and will not move the stock down - I saw a few companies that did well yet their stock didn't go anywhere.

I am loaded with Nov and Dec DRYS calls which are very in the money.

After paper trading some of Kidgas` and The Edge`s strategies, I started pulling the triggers on the long side only to find myself wrapped up in profits before the end of the day. When I found myself ready to hedge the gains, the profits kept climbing. At this juncture, I will probably start looking to close out the Nov calls.

Congrats, randall. One of the important things you mentioned is hedging the gains. I think it is important to lock in some profits while giving a stock some room to run. However you choose to do this is up to you, but if I have learned nothing else over the last several years, it is do not lose your capital.

I picked up some CY today purchasing Nov 30 puts and waiting for a little bump in price to sell the Nov 35 calls. Goal is to gain just over 4% for the month.

I picked up more NSIT today during its dip ... earnings November 1st. The stock has held nicely during the downturn with down day volume very light.

Congrats to all the folks playing the options. Keep the stories coming!:smxG:

Not holding it yet, but i'm considering getting out of my element and getting long EJ. Probably either straight calls or a debit call spread.

I am holding VMW into earnings today. Not so comfortable. I am using calls on the long side and distant puts to lower risk. You can say it's an odd long straddle.

Well, it worked out for the better but I was still uncomfortable, not with my risk but with the idea of the type of trade I put on.

I have been accumulating long term calls in BX for late 2008 and early 2009. Two choices here: execute the shares and hold them or take the gains in the options. I like the company long term.

Picked up some STV the last few days. China play.

Buying INAP going into earnings.

May buy some VDSI. Lots of growth ahead. Selling is overdone.

Chris, does that mean you're a buyer?
MJ,
If I can get in early enough, yes I am a buyer. $12-$14 is the target open area with anything under $20 a solid entry. You never know; it could open and blast to $30 before an order from a small timer like me gets filled.

I am still holding this month's VMW calls. Bought them when the stock was trading $100; now at $120. Maybe I am getting greedy but a quick pump can launch this sucker to $140 (that would be an amazing move for my calls). My protective puts are worthless but they were only insurance.

Still accumulating BX for the longer term and holding several others.

I have considered putting some money into silver.

What did you buy/what symbol? Silver ETF?

No I have some pennies in a forex acct and bet on it.(the amount is a small fraction of my total portfolio so no matter)
Unfortunately oil fell a lot yesterday :(. Was slaughter day for metals.
Looking good now(Currently 9:15 am GMT )

I own Silvercorp (China) - traded as pink sheets
also own Silver Wheaton (SLW)

both of them have been handsome performers.... but if you are bullish on silver, there is significant upside potential for Silvercorp... I am holding - won't add since they take up more than my comfortable allotment in the port.
