Hey i was always confused about this, i have bought a website before but not sure how it works. If i go to godaddy.com lets say and i sign up for the domain for about a year, do i actually own it? At this point, can i re-sell it and have full ownership. Also for someone starting out making a website what do you suggest.
Where should i buy the website from?
I know those easy-to-make/manage websites for 30.00 a month come out horrible. Must i learn how to write html and things of that sort? thank you

Yes, you own the domain when you register it and pay for it. Godaddy is relatively inexpensive, and if you google 'godaddy coupon' you should easily find a discount code to save you a couple extra bucks. You can resell it, but will lose ownership at that point. Please keep in mind that once you register the site, you must then find hosting. Godaddy offers hosting as well, but I would go with another company. The Wordpress blog software site has great hosting companies listed.

Thank you i appreciate the information, are there any pros and cons besides price when choosing different hosting companies?

Customer service, control panel capabilities, and server side technologies. I use and recommend ww.apisnetworks.com Here is a code that I believe still works: THREADKTHX: Save 15% on all hosting charges and receive an extra 25% in disk space and bandwidth!

Also, if you signup and want to refer me, please use referral code: legalnerd.net

Good luck!

To buy domains, Godaddy.
To get started with hosting I like and recommend hostgator as they provide good customer service.

I got my most recent domain from 1and1, Godaddy sends too many "offers", although if you can get the coupon to work for the 1.99 .com domains then it's worth it, otherwise can't beat 6.99 and a clean inbox going with 1and1 :urock2:

Clint i know you have been around long enough to know about my domain horror stories with 1and1. i also recentley found out you cant register more than a year in advance. they are just a junk companuy, up time is their only asset. i get godaddy domains for the same price and i never get any offers from them whatsoever. you just need to opt out. they also have certain DNS features which make it easy for mass domain handling... which is great for what i am doing now.
