US Working VISA

Does anyone know the process in getting a US Work Visa? This would be for a Canadian.

Any information would be wonderful.

a former co-worker, Canadian citizen, came here with a TN status (I believe that is the right classification) for "temp" work, as part of the NAFTA, he got it at the border once he got a formal job offer from a US company.

Another alternative is to go after the H1B visa (nonimmigrant allowed to work in the U.S.)

Both assume you have a U.S. company willing to sponsor you, which I assume is the case.
