Trying to assess my web business idea

I have plans on making a website with a friend that will serve as a complete portal for information on a passion of ours. It will be a free website that will draw money through advertising.

I've outlined what I wanted to talk about, our mission statement, our target market, etc. I'm not very concerned with the content or the look as I feel that will evolve naturally as he & I (especially he) are experts in this field (and naturally this will be planned out properly). It would be somewhat blog based but would feature useful content (articles, podcasts, video) and differentiating it from the rest will not be a problem. I'm just concerned with the marketing involved to make it successful.

I'm wondering if such a model is truly fastlane or just a moderate income?? Going after an enthusiast market is not like going after a market that is humongous like health, dating, finance, education, etc. which appeals to a potentially humongous audience. Or maybe I'm wrong...

I'm very excited regardless.....I'll do a search, but if anyone wanted to throw out internet marketing/ebiz related books to look into, I'd appreciate it.
