1600's - English philosophers - thought of "Pursuit of Happiness".
1776: Declaration of Independence in America
1776: Democracy - citizens ruled and protected themselves against monarchs and others
Circa: 1991: Public internet access
2011: Arab Spring - could not have happened with the internet
202?: The Third Stage. People living and creating their own life without interference from anyone - do whatever you want, as long as it doesn't interfere with the rights of anyone else.
As you can see the above historical timeline is the interfacing of technology with the social world. Without the printing press there would have been no American Revolution therefore no democracy.
