Hi everyone,
I'm Gappie. I'm 29 years old. After reading The Fastlane Millionaire I thought I'd come and check the forum out. It seems like an uplifting place to be at, so I'm here to give it a go! I seek to join a community of entrepreneurs to find answers and in my time provide answers. I say that, because I haven't practically started my entrepreneur journey yet. Currently I'm noticing a mindset shift and I'm looking around for business ideas. I try to consume less and seek ways to produce more. However, it's a process.

Nice to be here! Let me know if you want to know more, I'd be happy to respond.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum, hope your ideas will make sense because I think I'm also slowly getting into the same process as you do.

Hey there! Welcome to the forum, how are you going right now?
Thanks! Pretty good I'd say. While I am not currently in any sort of Fastlane, I can't complain. I have a job as a consultant at a software company, helping customers implement the software properly. It has brought me further in life: I can see that working is something good and I learnt that I love problem solving and creating systems.
I've always felt like I wanted to start a business, but didn't have too much of a clue what I would want to do, so I just started working to prevent sitting still. However, I feel like having a job kind of holds me back in my personal development and I don't like how the rewards are 1 to 1 proportional to the time invested.
Currently I am learning Python online to be able to act on ideas I have and might get. Eventually I want to be able to (help) create software systems that help people or businesses. Corporate software companies are pretty rigid and not as customer centered as they like to believe. This leaves enough opportunity.

What about you? How's your journey so far?

Trying to figur what kind of job I would pursue.

For now, I heavily hesitate between going into IT more, as I'm an engineer, and be my own consultant, or to create what's called a "unsexy business" but give it high quality and then delegate the tasks, so it can bring money without my work, and expend my brand etc.

And you, mate ? I read that you are also in IT but more into software ?

Your situation sounds pretty suitable for a weighted average decision matrix (WADM). MJ describes it in TFM. It'll force you to think about what's important to you and how you value these things. Have you tried it yet? And if so, would you share it, even though it's quite personal?

And yeah indeed, I work for a software company as a consultant. While I like the job, it's just not cutting it. While the work is okay, I just don't like the concept of a job. Having a specific function also keeps me away from real challenges, because it's not about software anymore, I need to let the project manager step in. I wanna learn more than just software that might not even be around in 10 years.
They value my contribution and my manager really praised me, so I got a promotion a few months back, but the salary increase was about the same as the inflation, so it felt more like a correction to me. I said this, but it was non negotiable. Manager hiding behind policy... Whatever.
It placed things in perspective for me. I'll start looking around for something else and work on it while I keep this job. The fact that the job is not that challenging anymore is an advantage currently. I never make more hours than in my contract and I still have mental capacity left after work to work on the next thing.

I just need to keep in mind that I take action. I tend to think a lot and not take as much action. Do you struggle with this?

To be honest, mate, it is the exact same thing that happened to me. Inflation was 8% in France and I got an increase of 4% even though where I worked, they are extremely happy about what I give to the company.
I was consulting as a manager on a critical service for the largest internet provider of my country and I'm very happy to have got praises for my work, but because of policies and stuff, can't get enough raise to even get to the inflation.

And for now I haven't tried anything, unfortunately I am also thinking about a lot of things, after reading the book of DeMarco few weeks ago, it opened my mind to so many ideas. My actions are mostly educating myself, for now, I took few courses online and was looking at buying one business and do my best to make it work. I think we shouldn't think too much about getting the perfect plan, but it seems you are like me, you tend to think about loads of things.

For now, my ideas :

-Waffle brand that I make grow and expend (need loads of money to start)
-Become leader of a pentesting team (need education that I'm pursuing now)
-Sell courses about mindset and self improvement (I don't like most of this movement on youtube)
-Buy a business, make it grow, repay the debt and buy a second business etc (need to be sure on where to start)
-Create an IT consultant business where I send experts to different kind of works (need to find the clients for myself at first and then sell others)
-Create a tea brand specialised for alternative medecine purpose (most tea leaves have real benefits for health)

What about yours ?

While the event of having an insufficient salary increase is not pleasant, I'm always happy to see how unpleasant events open my eyes.

Personally, I like the pentesting and tea brand ideas the most. The pentesting because there's demand and companies cannot really choose to "not do security". The tea brand because it's unique (to me at least) and might really provide value for people. If you can just drink tea to get rid of any stomach pains, that would be great!
Do you see specific things in these markets that you could use to provide more value than competitors?

I'm kind of in the same boat, thinking about ideas that I don't know (yet) how to execute. Therefore I spend time developing my skills. I never looked at education this way: 1. I want to do/create something 2. I don't know how 3. I'll educate myself on that specific topic. Usually I would just study what raises my intrinsic value the most.

I don't have too many ideas worth mentioning, but I want to produce my own product. This may be a software product or a tangible product solving a problem. Two ideas I have:
- Build a warehouse management system
- Create a powder substance that helps prevent hangovers

I'll probably start with building mobile apps to get experienced before going bigger, but first I need to work on my programming skills.

Hey, thanks for your patience !

Pentesting is a good thing, but I need to study more and more to be able to do it, and the certificates costs thousands. So I guess my best shot would be to focus on one aspect, learn it, test it, try it, until I become good enough without certification and offer for websites, in that way, I can do way more work in my opinion. Why chose me ?

-Quality of testing, with all steps detailed, all defaults found noted and how to remediate (most offers this already)
-Train your IT team to be able to detect and how to test (limited offer up to few people)
-Also, my training sessions would depend on my "agenda" and it will cost a lot, because few spots avalaible

For the tea, the major problem that I have is that I'm not the producer and I will depend on the ones who have the tea leaves. So it is a low point on the GOLD! - HOT! - The CENTS Business Commandments for Entrepreneurs scheme. And for the specific things that I can provide :

-Quality of tea leaves (depend of supplier)
-Quality of the taste (some leaves can't mix to each other, the smell would be terrible)
-Some part of the money invested for the tea goes to an association who takes care of nature
-Have a free e-book of few pages on what type of things they can mix for each type of problems

I saw your ideas, why not create a kickstarter for this ? So people can put some money into it BEFORE you start to work on it, to see if the market needs it ? And also, I think we both are culprits of the same sin, we want to learn learn learn but this video indeed sound good to me : MINDSET - Start Faster - Stop "Learning"

Good luck on your research !
