The three examples you just gave were all environmental or external changes.
  • Music

  • Food placement
You really need to show me a scientifically proven strategy where people change their own perceptions/thoughts/beliefs without someone forcing a behavior change or changing their environment first.

Listen this Medium post isn’t meant to be a comprehensive guide to attitude change. I can honestly write a volumes on this topic.

Your medium post is written very well. But if you use the term 'Master Key', your strategy should be the best strategy. It needs to be some 80/20 stuff.

No offense, but your strategy isn't even a 'Top Five' strategy.

Maybe change the title to:

A Possible Solution to Changing Habits and Behavior for Good

If your article is correct, I could turn a 18 year old young man into a disciplined soldier with a Pros and Cons list.

*That should have been young person. Sorry ladies.
Dude this stuff is like an introduction. You’re giving me a headache by harping on the pros and cons list thing. That’s one way of looking at additional benefits. Again, this is an article for Medium not a dissertation for a PhD. The real message is

You can get him to join by something like that. You can instill the motivation.

Let’s say his mom said “you should join the military... there are great benefits, it makes it easier to get a good job when you get out, you get free college”

Or let’s say his mom said “Don’t join the military... we need people to uphold peace in America. You’re going to be in situations where you have to kill another soldier who is just like you just because he’s on the other team. You’re going to have to take some mother’s son because George Bush has a vendetta”

(Please note, I’m NOT trying to get into politics or even getting into my views, it’s merely an example of how it can go both ways)

But in both cases the mom rapped off something akin to a Pros/Cons list. One argument listed the pros of joining the military. One listed the cons. Both could theoretically have very different impacts on the person.

Pros
  • good benefits
  • free college
  • serve your country
or

Cons
  • war can be like murder
  • you’ll have to kill people with different views
  • PTSD
Again, not getting into the politics. Just using the example. Let’s not move this is any political direction whatsoever.

But that’s the whole point. It’s not training. It’s instilling motivation. You take what you want to motivate yourself towards, then you focus solely on the arguments for it, then minimize those against. How to do this? You can go as deep as you want. But again some good routes to take are Advertising, persuasion, law.

Because you don’t realize how core this is to human behavior. This is an introduction, but if you go further down the habit hole, it’s really fundamental stuff.

Going deeper:

Neurochemistry 101 - Meet your Happy Chemicals

Also, it may not be a Top 5 strategy to you, but a lot of people have messaged me on here and on Medium telling me how much it’s helped them. Another forum member is actually outlining his progress as we speak: Getting Rid of Toxic Habit for Good

Oh that’s all?

Cognitive behavioral therapy: How does CBT work?
Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is a short-term therapy technique used by counselors and therapists to teach individuals to change their unwanted behaviors by changing their thought patterns.
The premise of cognitive behavioral therapy is that our thought patterns (cognition) and interpretations of life events greatly influence how we behave and, ultimately, how we feel.

Cognitive behavioral therapy: How does CBT work?

My method is very very similar to what Allen Carr uses in his stop smoking clinics. That’s actually how I developed it. I reverse engineered his method because it worked so well.

The effectiveness of the Allen Carr smoking cessation training in companies tested in a quasi-experimental design

Conclusion
Smokers following the ACt in their company were about 6 times more likely to be abstinent, assessed after 13 months, compared to similar smokers in the general population. Although smokers in both conditions did not differ significantly on 14 variables that might be related to cessation success, the quasi-experimental design allows no definite conclusion about the effectiveness of the ACt. Still, these data support the provision of the ACt in companies.

@ChrisV Here are just three of your recent posts:

"I agree that Academia has somewhat become a liberal sh*tshow. All these assholes at Colombia or Brown with their safe-spaces and trigger warnings and cry-baby victim mentality have really skewed the academic realm."

"I hate the word ‘privilege’.. not to be harsh but, it’s really just liberal, left wing crybabying"

Most academics (while brilliant in some regards) have his hippie, liberal marxist safe-space bullshit.

I'm new to this forum, but I know not to discuss politics. It's one of the eight rules of the forum. You might want to start following them.

I also respect the opinions of others.

And I'm not a liberal by the way.

It's awesome that you're helping people. Your anecdotal evidence is great. But, using the term 'Master Key' is too much.

I know. My empirical evidence is pretty good too.

Anyway, enough of this. It’s beating a dead horse at this point.

I am a liberal ;)

I’m a registered Democrat.

For all I care, you could be Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders love child. This is supposed to be a non-political forum.

I was just under the impression that this a non-political forum.
It is, but there’s an overlap when we talk about socialism because socialists believe that people should be given money without providing value first, but a core lesson in Fastlane thinking is that money is a reward for providing value. So I mean the comparisons are almost inevitable.

But anyway, thank you for your feedback.

Social liberalism doesn't equal socialism
Social liberalism doesn't equal marxism

So, maybe you should stick to using socialism and marxism instead of liberalism.

Can I use the Misattribution of Arousal Theory to get more clients?

If I take them out to a roller coaster ride will they call me back more often?

If the Bridge Experiment works on the opposite sex it should work on anyone else...

I'll think about it
it’s funny you mention that because you’re not far off at all

that’s the exact thing many companies do

that’s why coca-cola always features smiling children in their ads: misattribution of arousal

you now take those emotions you were experiencing while seeing their brand logo or product and now attribute it to them

so yes, misattribution of arousal will (and does) work in business

And for the record, @Rawseed is correct to an extent. Behaviorism is somewhat out of date.

It’s out of date, but it is not incorrect. it just treats the brain as this “black box” since at the time it was such a freaking mystery.

Certain things about behaviorism are oversimplified

Neither of the approaches are wrong, they’re simply different ways of looking at it.

A good breakdown. Or even better: from the beginning.

NOT, looking to reopen this can of worms, just adding that for those who may be reading.
